About this listen

At first, Into the Forest was a word-of-mouth favorite of booksellers. Soon larger publishing houses were noticing Jean Hegland's debut novel and giving it rave reviews. Powerful and disturbing, Into the Forest offers images of an all-too-believable future. As America collapses in the chaos of war, pollution, and bankruptcy, two sisters pool their resources to survive alone in the hills above San Francisco. Although dwindling food and increasing isolation threaten them, they soon find a more immediate danger standing at their door. When a young man arrives, his friendship offers tantalizing fulfillment, but his love threatens to divide the sisters.

Hegland's provocative work is reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984 and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. It infuses a tale of survival with startling insights into a young woman's quest for strength.

it is hard to feel bad for these girls in this story. they do so many foolish things and bad things Fall apon them because it's their own fault.
Even the father is to blame for how stupid these girls turned out. they are smart though, because they eventually do learn. But they could have easily avoided many of these situations if they were just smarter to begin with.
I watch the movie first on Netflix, I hope the book would do a bit more explaining on these characters though. But all it does is pisses you off more for how dumb some of these characters are.
all right book, just didn't care much for the way the characters acted in the events.

hard to feel bad for them.

This story was not what I expected when looking for an apocalypse book. However, the way the author wrote it was almost lyrical. She has an amazing way with words. There is no high action. It’s mostly a story of sisters, survival, and nature. I wouldn’t put it in my favorites list but I would definitely suggest others read it. I enjoyed it!

Beautifully Written

Don't expect monsters and massive death. This version is actually more real, more to heart.

Different dystopia

Great story and good narration however, you can hear people talking in the background off-and-on throughout a great deal of the book.

Poor recording

It has moments where you are think this is to silly but its definitely worth finishing.

not like the movie at all.

This tale was believable. The characters were likable and real. There were times when I couldn't put this one down.

A realistic post apocalypse book

I started listening and immediately heard the end of Ellen (Elliot) Page. The movie was almost exactly like the book and the book was stellar. It was heartbreaking and human, with a sister bond that was 😳 at one point, where the movie didn't go. Definitely a read worth reading by one of my favorite authors.

Beautiful. Now... watch the movie!!!

This is an incredible telling of the survival of two young women in the face of losing so much that they believed.

Outstanding

I read this when I was 15, and have had memories of it ever since, which says a lot, because I read a lot of books. I am glad I was able to find it, to "read," it again. the reader does an excellent job.

great story

This story was so terrible and wonderful and sad and happy. My heart broke. So well written, and i empathized with each of the characters individually, fully. Didn’t want it to end

Feels just like The Road by McCarthy
