Publisher's summary

It's a demon-eat-demon world for Nick Gautier. Just when he thinks he's finally gotten a handle on how not to take over the world and destroy it, Death returns with an all-star cast that is determined to end the Malachai reign and lineage forever. Worse? Death and War have found the one, true enemy Nick can't find, and even if he did, it's one he could never bring himself to banish or kill.

Now framed for murders he hasn't committed, and surrounded by new friends who might be turncoats, Nick is learning fast how his father went down in flames. The heat in New Orleans is rising fast, and Nick's threat-level has gone into a whole new level of intensity.

He's learning fast that when War and Death decide to battle, they don't take prisoners. They don't negotiate. And they're both immune to his biting sarcasm and Cajun charm. To win this, he will have to embrace a new set of powers, but one wrong step, and he will belong to the side of Darkness, forever.

Contains mature themes.

I feel like I waited a really long time for this book

But is this the last one in the series? I need another one! I really like this series. It’s up there with the Raven Cycle.

Umm....

I love, love, love this series and the Dark Hunter series and how they intertwine...I always enjoy good connections. But I rewound a bit too much in this story. The ending was wrapped up with a bow for the book; but the epilogue was a little confusing. Now what's going to happen next? How will the timelines connect up between the changes that will come from the events in the epilogue to what we know about the Dark Hunter's timeline. Ms. Kenyon you cannot stop here, we are still missing a puzzle piece!

5 stars all the way across the board!

I absolutely loved the Chronicles of Nick series.. it left me wanting more! It is the first of many Sherilyn Kenyon books I have started to read. I am now listening to the Dark Hunter series. And look forward to the other series available.

Love this series!

My 2nd favorite book series! I’m anxious to find out what happens with Cyprian & Kody. I hope Nick figures it out before he’s supposed to ruin the world!

Great but ear irritating

was a really good book, wrapped up really well, but Holter Graham continues to mess with both the voices and his pronunciation of Words which is rather irritating. Semes (or however it's spelled) voice was changed drastically and made almost painful to listen to. Otherwise the book was fantastic.
