About this listen

Across America a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly contagion. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common–they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.

Meanwhile Perry Dawsey–a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey–awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected. The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder.

Critic reviews

"Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk, Infected blends science fiction and horror into a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense. Three recommendations: don't read it at night, or just after you've eaten a full meal, or if you're weak of heart. You've been warned!"—James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Judas Strain and Black Order

“Powerfully written . . . an unforgettable central character.” —Dallas Morning News

“Sigler is masterful at grabbing the reader by the throat and refusing to let go. Just when I thought I knew what abyss he was leading me across, he knocked the bridge out from under... I think I screamed the whole way down... Infected is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.”—Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match

Hackneyed concept drowning in gratuitous violence

Aliens using human hosts is not a new idea. The visible, unmitigated violence seems to somehow be ignored by all but the lone, mousey female scientist that suddenly becomes an unstoppable force in the nick of time to save the planet.
There, now that just saved you all 11 hours of time better spent on new ideas, cleverly portrayed. This book is fine if you're a freshly pubescent male, not so sure about the rest of us.

This book gave me the chills! "Chicken scissors"

Good story, well performed, with chilling voices. It made me look over my shoulder, and then at my shoulder, and everywhere else on my body. Then the chicken scissors (shudders). Starting the next book now.

Pretty disappointed

I don't know if it was the story or the writing style, but I just didn't enjoy the book as much as I hoped. It may boil down to the fact that I didn't really make a connection to any of the characters, who were mostly not very likable.

Performance was ok. It was more then a standard reading with sound F/X. I hated the music transitions, which really took away from the story.

I won't be reading the next book in the series.

pretty good, like the fact the author narrates

Would you consider the audio edition of Infected to be better than the print version?

yes,

What did you like best about this story?

I thought it was it nice to hear the author narrate the whole book with characters.

Any additional comments?

one problem I had was the sound in-between chapters. After a while it just became annoying...every chapter, or every change of scenes...Boinnggggg

Gotta give him credit story was great

Gotta give him credit, the narration was terrible but he's a writer not a narrator...he rushed through the sentences and the character voices were terrible BUT the story plot was GREAT. I'm looking forward to trying the next book although I pray he can nab RC Bray to narrate it this time.

voices distracting

overall really like Scott's books. I know I will sound a fool, but i did not like his reading of it and the different voices were distracting. I know he is the author and therefore the best reader to have but for me i would have preferred a different narrator. great story. a little gross.

Good Book, Terrible Narration

Any additional comments?

I have read and greatly enjoyed the both and both of its sequels, so I figured, lets give them another go in audiobook form. Bad call. The writer, (again, excellent writer) narrates the book, rendering it unlistenable. The voices he givers the characters range from merely grating to absolutely horrendous. Do yourself a favor, read the book, skip this. As for me, I'm gonna see if I can get a refund.

Expected Better

Not to bad with the story and all, but Scott needs to stick to writing and clear of being a narrator!

The narration was pretty bad & made the writing seem child like & even sounding choppy. It made it very very hard to keep listening to the whole book. Sure wish he was not the narrator of the book !!!

Can't take it anymore

Any additional comments?

I love the storyline and I really wish I could continue listening past chapter two, but the narration is just killing it for me. Please get a professional to narrate next time!!!!!!
