About this listen
Soon after September 11, the news media stepped up its coverage of Martin and Gracia Burnham, the missionary couple held hostage in the Philippine jungle by terrorists with ties to Osama bin Laden. After a year of captivity and a violent rescue that resulted in Martin's death, the world watched Gracia Burnham return home in June 2002.
In this riveting personal account, Burnham tells for the very first time the real story behind the news - about their harrowing ordeal, about how it affected their relationships with each other and with God, about the terrorists who held them, about the actions of the US and Philippine governments, and about how they were affected by the prayers of thousands of Christians throughout the world.

Good story
Good story. Difficult to listen to the pain and trials that the missionaries had to endure for so long. Thanks to the Lord for his Grace and his people

Amazing Book!
Would you consider the audio edition of In the Presence of My Enemies to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the printed version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of In the Presence of My Enemies?
All of it, this is one of the few few books with which I could not wait to hear the next chapter.
What does Aimee Lilly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The emotion and clarity with which she read made it seem as though Gracia was telling the story directly to me.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"What would you do?"

Awesome!
Story really moves and the reader does an excellent job. BUT! The story ends abruptly, spend your money on the longer version to get the aftermath! Now I have to buy the other audiobook for the conclusion! Grrrrr

A must read!
Already having a pretty good idea of what Gracia’s story was about, I had this book in my library for a long time before I felt I might be in the right mind set to listen. I shouldn’t have waited. I was part of the first contingent of US Special Forces that deployed to Basilan in early 2002 to train, advise and assist the AFP in their Counter Terrorism ops. I only wish that our hostage rescue oriented training had either gotten to, or sunk in to, the soldiers that botched the final raid. Though she doesn’t dwell on it herself, her honest narrative, serves as a valuable lesson to operators of the horrible consequences that can come because of improper actions taken by poorly led soldiers. Gracia’s forgiving nature is a balm to my sole. Her and Martin’s courage and faith should be an inspiration to all who have the privilege to read her stunningly well written and moving account. I will encourage my daughter to share this book with my grandchildren as soon as she deems it age appropriate,
