Publisher's summary

Spring, 1909, and Lady Hardcastle, amateur sleuth and all-round eccentric, is enjoying a well-deserved rest. But a week after a trip to the cattle market, Spencer Caradine, a local farmer, turns up dead in the pub, face-down in his beef and mushroom pie. Once again, it is up to Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, to solve the case.

Armed with wit and whimsy, not to mention Florence’s mean right hook, the pair set out to discover what really happened and why. Was it poison or just ill luck?

As they delve further into their investigation, they encounter a theft where nothing is stolen, a séance with a troubled ghost and an ever-increasing number of Spencer’s family and friends who might just have motive for murder. One thing’s for sure: Lady Hardcastle has a mystery on her hands.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Spirit Is Willing, this edition of In the Market for Murder includes editorial revisions.

Plenty of murder suspects in English countryside

Once again Lady Hardcastle and her lady's maid tackle a murder investigation in the country. Plot is thick with suspects and paranormal activity, and keeps the reader busy trying to guess who and why someone would want a villager or two dead. A little more complicated plot than the previous adventure, but worth the read.

Mystery solved by pish and fiddlesticks

Brilliantly presented, the narrator did a splendid job pulling me into the story. I've already downloaded the series!,

Another delight from TE Kinsey!

Would you consider the audio edition of In the Market for Murder to be better than the print version?

Never read print version.

What did you like best about this story?

Thought this was pleasant and well worth the listen. Bought it right after finishing book 1.

Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Knowelden – was your favorite?

I am very fond of Lady Hardcastle. Flo may do the dirty work, but I like her ladyship, if that's a proper description.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to it is a matter of maybe three days.

Any additional comments?

Good job by writer and narrator. I started listening again because I did enjoy the voicing of the characters.

same formula but it works!

nothing very much different in the story or narration frm the first one but hey, why fix what aint broke? love this series and hope the author writes many more. Although I have to say the number of time lady hardcastle says "pish and fiddlesticks" is starting to grate on my nerves!

One of my favorite cozy mystery series

I love the two main characters in this series, Lady Hardcastle and her "lady's maid." They are a great pair of amateur detectives.
