Publisher's summary

The Halifax Hellions are the most scandalous, outrageous, ungovernable ladies in London. From the day of their debut—in which Matilda smoked a cheroot and Margo tied a cherry stem in a knot with her tongue—they’ve turned the ton upside down.

But when Matilda elopes with a dangerous aristocrat, Margo must stop her twin before this new misadventure becomes a permanent marriage. For help, Margo turns to her brother’s best friend—because if anyone can get them to Scotland in time, it’s starchy solicitor Henry Mortimer.

Henry Mortimer has precisely one secret in his otherwise buttoned-up life: he’s been in love with Margo for seven wonderful, agonizing years. When she turns up at his doorstep, soaked to the skin and desperate for his help, he cannot turn her down. A week alone in a carriage with the object of his desires an arm’s length away? Surely he can survive that. He hopes.

But the road to Scotland is paved with disasters—caves and crashes and the bloody rain that keeps forcing Henry to hold a damp, shivering, dreadfully tempting Margo in his arms. Only an unstoppable force could drag the truth of Henry’s affection from his lips. Unfortunately for him, Margo Halifax has yet to be stopped.

Critic reviews

"Mhairi Morrison narrates a sweet yet decidedly spicy historical romance. Morrison deftly peels back the facades Margo and Henry present to show deeper truths, such as Margo’s unacknowledged fear of being abandoned and Henry’s secret erotic fantasies regarding Margo—which she is delightfully eager to reciprocate. Morrison’s performance both charms and titillates." - Audiofile Magazine

Erotica

This book is full of gratuitous and detailed sex scenes. It’s otherwise well written, but if you’re looking for a cheeky romance or comedy, keep moving. I did not finish the book because the story is interrupted by way too many sex scenes, which become major obstacles to finding out what happens. I gave up. The sex becomes more of a focus than the story.

Positively perfect!

This was an absolutely wonderful journey with Margo and Henry. They were so adorable in their unrequited infatuation with each other. I loved the imagery from each of their internal musings of how things could play out in the situations they found themselves in. Margo and Henry end up alone, and though they give in to their physical desires, they are afraid to admit what is in their hearts. It takes a moment or two, but they finally admit their love and find happiness in each other.

This audiobook is expertly narrated by the amazing Mhairi Morrison.

Worth the wait!

I've wanted to listen to this since I first heard about this series (I'm a listener not a reader). I am so pleased that it did not disappoint. It is a great story with great narration- which I find harder to find than it should be. Well done!

A too contemporary regency romance

There’s not much story here, other than them traveling with each other, having sex, and discussing the nature of their romance. This meant I never invested in either of them as likable people. Margo in particular felt very prideful, pursuing a course of life in order to show society she’s beyond them,
but effectively just putting on a sour grapes show.

The writing didn’t feel consistent within the regency period. For example, there’s regular use of F bombs and “t!ts” in the same scenes where Henry talks of removing his “smalls” or touching her “cunn,y”
(a word that I loathe in regency or contemporary format). The central premise of the Halifax girls being scandalous appeared to have no repercussions, contributing to the feeling that this was a contemporary romance trying to shoehorn itself into a regency. She’s been around, but he hasn’t… she makes the first move … he declares his feelings first … she’s the blueblood … there were just too many deviations from the regency genre for me to buy the story.
