About this listen

After the death of her father, Georgiana Hartley returns home to England - only to be confronted with the boorish advances of her cousin. Knowing no one, she flees to Dominic Ridgely's estate, hoping the nobleman will bestow a neighborly kindness upon her.

The viscount hears Georgiana's plea to find her a position as a lady's companion with barely concealed ill humor. A lovely innocent such as Miss Hartley subjected to that wretched existence? The very idea is preposterous. Instead, he takes matters into his own hands, introducing her to his sister's influence.

Suddenly Georgiana is transformed into a lady, charming the ton and cultivating a bevy of suitors. Everything is unfolding according to Dominic's plan...until he realizes that he desires Georgiana for his own.

Typical

I was in the mood for a period romance and I thought this one sounded interesting. It was ok, but predictable. I ended up becoming annoyed toward the end. I was 18 once and I hope that I was not that stupid.

Early Laurens, don’t start with this

This heroine is dumb as a stick. It’s a fun read, because she does a good job with description and detail but her later books are 100% better with heroines who have guts and smarts. I thought I would try to finish all of her regency novels before the romance category goes away. If I had paid for this one, I think I would want my money back. As it was, it was free so it was a diverting way to spend a few hours, no loss.

Ok

This is a story about a semi insecure girl who can't imagine why someone could love her. You can imagine the ensuing frustration on the part of the reader. There were times I just had to fast forward through her ridiculous meanderings. To add to that the book is completely PG rated. There is zero heat to this book and given who wrote it that was disappointing.

Wonderful!

Not a bit realistic. I loved it! Great way to escape! I hope this makes 15 words.

Impetuous Innocent

Another Laurens winner. I've read or listened to most of her works. She has never disappointed me.

Just okay

I love Stephanie Laurens, she is truly on of my favorite romance authors, but this was not one of her best work. It was just okay for me, I have read all of her books and this one just did not do it for me. Not enough sexual excitement as I was expecting and the heroine was riding my last nerve. Fair, but not the best!

frustrating

Extremely slow, boring and immature. I wanted to literally scream for the author to get on with the story. This is my first time reading this author and i doubt seriously if i will ever read her again. A waste of time, money and a lesson in patience waiting for the story to get the least bit entertaining or interesting. Don't bother or waste your money or credit.

Too may issues to count

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It would be better if there was not so much of an age gap between the h/h. 14 years if a little creepy....and there was no real reason why the gap could not be closed. It only made the stupid things the heroine did make her seem more childlike. This highlighted the flaw in why the hero wanted to marry her. She had very little redeaming qualities.

Has Impetuous Innocent turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but it has turned me off SL. I don't know why I tried this book, as it is usual that the women don't have anything more than beauty and a desire to stubbornly discourage the hero's attempt to marry her in a standard SL plot. This heroine seemed to take a lot of effort to get things wrong and be confused. If I was the hero I would have moved on, so then I started to dislike him too!

Which scene was your favorite?

None, just a lot of scenes where I keep thinking what a smart , sophisticated 32 year old man would want with an immature , silly 18 year old .<
I guess it's the same in today's culture, where men like a woman they can "train" like a pet.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment and bordom

Any additional comments?

I am still listening to this book as I write the review and again even at the end, she is making her best effort to get the hero's intentions wrong. The hero can easily find someone better, so I just can't get behind these 2 or believe that they should be together, so there is really little romance.

OK but not up to her usual standard

This book was slow and annoying. All of the characters act stupidly due to misconceptions about the other characters and no one talks to anyone about what is going on. All of the problems that come up would be easily solved if any one character shared their concerns with another character. If all of this pussy footing around is not annoying enough, there is not one good love scene in the entire book.
