About this listen

Something terrible has happened in the snowbound village of Kingdom Come, Wyoming, where 12 eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Meals remain untouched on dining room tables, cars are still in garages, and the town's residents have vanished into thin air. This is the disturbing setting where vacationing medical examiner Maura Isles and her traveling companions find themselves trapped during a ferocious snowstorm. Thinking they've found a safe haven, they soon realize that they are not alone in the valley....someone is watching.

After one of their party is injured, Maura sets out to find help. But just as she leaves the village, she is attacked and dragged into the woods. A blow falls and the world goes black. Searching for her friend and colleague, police detective Jane Rizzoli's investigation leads her to the abandoned valley and a gruesome discovery. But it turns out Maura's not dead--she's on the run, forced to place her life in the hands of the unlikely savior who has kept her alive until now: a 16-year-old boy.

Excellent

I think this was Tess's best, or at least the most entertaining book yet. There were some major problems with the story by todays technology. Maura would have done a dental exam and DNA test before declaring who a badly burned body belonged to. Putting that aside, I really enjoyed it. It ended with a real ending and yet left the story wide open for what is to come in the next book. Too many mystery/thriller writers lately have left stories just hanging. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to her next book in the series.

Best narrator for this series

The last two books have been very engaging and the ending wasn't what I expected. This narrator flowed well with the story and there weren't contrived accents distracting from the story line.

Slow start but got better

This is the latest in the Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. At first, the book failed to interest me but then a little over halfway through, I didn't want to turn it off or get out of the car. This story took Rizzoli and Isles out of their normal setting . Maura was stranded in a snowstorm in Wyoming and there was an odd cult involved. The narrator was above average. Ice Cold ended up being a decent addition to the Rizzoli and Isles series.

Rizolie & Isles Hard At It

Good reading bring each character to life tho for me it was generally too long .... Ok but not a great page turner of What's Next.....

Decent story, bad reader

I was really drawn into this story when I first started reading it. I got the audio book so I could listen at work. I was hugely annoyed by the choice of reader. She sounded like a robot and the voices of the character were hokey. It kind of took away from the story. I kept having to try and imagine how I would have made it sound in my head instead. As for the story, the ending was kind of a let down. Maybe I just prefer drama and resolution as opposed to anti-climactic surprises.

Great Story - BAD reader

This was a very good book. Tess Gerritsen writes taut, edge of the seat books. This was one of them. It was somewhat spoiled by the reader, however. She read in somewhat of a monotone and had either a lisp or some speech impediment that was very distracting. I enjoyed the story, just wish I had read it instead of listening to it.
