In this stellar, impactful book, a young teen navigates the devastating chaos of the Pearl Harbor attack during WWII. A Notable Children's Release from multi-award-winning Ellie Crowe and Scott Peters.

15-year-old Billy embarks on a perilous journey to save his father during the World War Two assault on Pearl Harbor. Initially dismissed as a mere drill, the reality quickly dawns on Billy and his family. The island of Oahu is under attack! Worse, his dad is down there on the USS Oklahoma, laid up in the sick bay with two broken legs. He'll never be able to escape on his own. But what can Billy do? He's just a kid and he's way out of his element. Still, he has to act. Braving a hail of gunfire, Billy navigates his way to the harbor, boards a rescue vessel, and daringly ascends the rapidly sinking Oklahoma battleship. In the chaos below deck, he finds his injured father, setting the stage for a dramatic rescue.

The fact that the door closed and the had a tiny space to escape

I engined everything and the fact that they were Japanese American if they haven’t of been the story would have changed drastically

Virtual Narration

The virtual narration is lifeless and makes this impossible to listen to. Not at all enjoyable.

Virtual voice reader was terrible

The story was interesting but the virtual reader and its monotone voice ruined it. There was no voice inflection and it quickly became boring.

AI Voicing is an embarrassment and an Insult.

I fear this is the way of things for the future, forgoing human narrators to up the profit margin. We, the customers, just get slapped in the face and laughed at in the process.

This is supposed to be a Young Adult intro to an important event in American history and as such, I understand some license is appropriate. The author, however, appears to know or understand very little about WW2 and so mucks things up a bit. It feels like a video game or a choose your own adventure story book and I really don't think any kid over 12 or so would put up with it; it feels aimed at a pre teen audience. Add the robot narration, and I mean it really does have robotic qualities, and it becomes a misery.
