About this listen
Was it a typo when the CEO mandated that the organization "institutionalize incompetents"? If not, how did the company wind up institutionalizing incompetence instead?
How to Work for an Idiot is still the confessions of a recovering Idiot Boss. After decades of writing and consulting, Dr. Hoover finally realized that many of the people he kept trying to "energize" and "enlighten" were, well, idiots. More importantly, he was an idiot for thinking he could change them.
This new edition of How to Work for an Idiot is bigger and better - and filled with even more idiots - than before. The same technology that has enabled cluelessness from the corner office to go viral can help you protect yourself and keep your inner idiot in check. Yes, How to Work for an Idiot goes that deep.
Not every boss is an idiot, and not every idiot is a boss. Let Dr. Hoover help you find the wisdom to know the difference.

After Eric Davis spent over 16 years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time. Without a father figure in his own life since the age of 15, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he'd fought so hard to forge when his children were young - particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one's own.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Insights—like Darwin's understanding of the way evolution actually works, and Watson and Crick's breakthrough discoveries about the structure of DNA-can change the world. We also need insights into the everyday things that frustrate and confuse us so that we can more effectively solve problems and get things done. Yet we know very little about when, why, or how insights are formed—or what blocks them. In Seeing What Others Don't, renowned cognitive psychologist Gary Klein unravels the mystery.

boring 😴
Brian Sutherland's speaking style may not be engaging for some listeners. However, if you are seeking a resource to aid in relaxation or sleep, this book could be a suitable choice due to its calming effect.

Resonated
This story resonates with most if not all employees in any sector. If you are in the boss role, it's a must-read and keep in mind the somewhat humorous intent. I appreciate dry humor!

Rough listen
This is a rough listen. The book may be ok in paper form, but the audiobook is robotic and hard to follow. I did glean some good advice from it though.

Some books shouldn't be audio books. This is one of those books.
Ouch. Just mind-numbingly boring, even at 1.45x. Like being read a textbook. May try the actual physical or e-book, for visual reading... This is not doable.

Couldn't get through it.
The voice reading this book will put you to sleep. I almost think it was computer generated because it has absolutely no intonation. the subject matter, drew me to buy the book. However, the author wanders around a lot describing a thousand things that are not considered an idiot boss. additionally, I found some of the suggestions to not be managing your idiot boss but rather giving up and just dealing with it. this book should be handed out by idiot bosses to get people who are subordinate to them to comply.

Expected Better
I saw the rave reviews on this book and I thought it as decent but not great. It was kind of on the negative side for me and sarcastic. I couldn't take it too seriously. There were some nuggets of truth that I have put in my toolbox, but overall didn't care for it.
The narrator read the book so slow, so I sped it up to 1.5x. Painfully slow.
