Publisher's summary

Nate~
With the world in chaos around us, the only thing I could do was try to keep Felix safe as we searched for our older brother. We’d been traveling for over two years, searching Ministry camp after Ministry camp and trying to steer clear of the Rebels. I didn’t know what to do when we ran into a whole group of shifters with guns. But then the huge, gorgeous guy that found us did the unthinkable....

Tre~
At first I thought the two young shifters were trying to sneak up on me, but I soon realized they were only passing through. I was going to send them on their way until I heard the others coming. What was I supposed to do? How else was I supposed to save them? The delicious man and his brother would’ve been killed had I not claimed him.

Will Nate and Tre be able to work together to keep themselves and their packmates alive? Or will they let the cruelty of the outside world tear them apart?

*How We Survive is the first book in the Reclaiming Hope series, but is a stand-alone novel. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but the couples will show up throughout the series. It’s a paranormal shifter romance between two men with explicit language and graphic sex intended for adults only.*

Brilliant...

I thoroughly enjoyed this beautifully, energetic, character driven story. Though this is a shifter story, which is one of the main reasons I selected the story, it is so much more than that. It's a story of life, love, triumph, loss, and a whole bunch of WTF's! I immediately embraced the characters beginning with Nate and Felix, Trey and Patty, the cast of characters that become intertwined into the story, the war, and the humans. The true mating story of Nate and Trey was exceptional. I have read various reviews that stated it was too slow in the making, but I loved the confusion, the denial, the tenacity, and the humility of this story and I would not have wanted it to go any other way then the way in which the author intended. Michele Notaro's story telling is fantastic and Kenneth Obi's narration skills are beyond reproach. There is so much to say about this book but to easy to spoil, so I will just state that I cannot wait for the next in this series. LOVED IT!

Shifters, Love, and Survival

I loved this book from the moment I started it. The action, the drama, the intense suspense was perfect. In a world gone mad, shifters are at war and Nate and Tre must survive while they battle for what they believe in. The worldbuilding was solid and I enjoyed all the characters. I enjoyed watching Nate and Tre fall in love and watch their bond grow.

The narration was wonderful and was perfect for this story.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars. This story had me hooked immediately. The writing was wonderful and the plot was interesting and enthralling. I loved this story.

Great all around

The story is post a apocalyptic setting after shifters are exposed to society, there's actual plot and drama. The description of intimacy and not just sex is refreshing and hits me deep. Its comforting and more fulfilling. I feel for the characters. Not all the voices are my favorite but the narrator does a great job. And honestly, I can't wait until the next one. I want to get it right now.

Not a fan of dystopian stories - but this wowed!

This was so good!!!! It’s a dystopian/war type story which I usually avoid like the plague, but the romance is so sweet and the shifter world is really well-developed and captivating that when a friend recommended this I couldn’t put it down!

It’s dark and not super happy, but there are moments of light and I’m hopeful that book 2 will have some more happiness in it as well.

If you’re looking for a real shifter-centered romance where the MCs act like shifter and not just happen to shift now and then – this is for you.

Audio

Kenneth Obi does a nice job with this. He’s easy to listen to and does a nice job giving all the characters a unique voice. Definitely a good way to enjoy this story!

Perfection!!!

OMG
‘How We Survive’ was my first M. Notaro book & I fell in love with the series and her writing. Kenneth Obi just elevated it to an entirely new level of enjoyment!! His characters were fantastic {and spot on to what I had imagined}. Superb storytelling. Absolute perfection.

Intense Characters & World Building

I have the book, and read it months before I picked up the audio. It is good, a 5***** rating good. But, when reading, if the scene became too sad or upsetting or touchy-feely, I could skim past those sections.

With the audio, I had no control over that (unless one fast fowards) and I was under Kenneth Obi's spell. The audio is intense, and I was grabbing for tissues more than once. Each chapter builds on each other, masterfully bringing the characters to a vivid elevation where you cannot hide from their feelings. And Kenneth brings all of the feelings.

Michele Notaro created an incredible shifter world. There is love, and death, betrayal, and war. Family, and pack, and cruelty, and compassion. I will not listen to this audio any time soon because *huffs breath* intense... but, I will be visiting this world again.

Beautiful

Loved this one from Michele Notaro! It is best described as a post apocalyptic werewolf story and it is a wild ride! Great character development and excellent plot. Kenneth Obi does a really nice job at bringing this story to life.

as good as the ebook!

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the 2 narrators (so far), I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B
