About this listen

After exploding with rage and injuring some Caliphate marines, Tanner is sent to the Barony Hospital ship on a 90-day observation to see if he's really sane. At the same time, he is challenged by his doctors and psychiatrist to see if he can defeat his alcohol addiction and to combat his PTSD too.

Also on the ship is the Barony Secure labs, where the research teams are trying to find the Ikarian virus vaccine to give longevity to the RIM - and the Baroness is interested in their success.

While the Caliphate continues to try to find a way to steal the vaccine, they end up using a vacjumper - someone who can go right out into outer space with no suit and attempt to break into the lab that way.

Called on to forget about his illness, Tanner must rise to heed the call to defeat the vacjumper and to do that he must jump out into space on his own. Death, virus vaccines, and love all play a part for him and his quest.

Can Cpt Scott Save the Enkian Virus?

What did you love best about Hospital Ship?

This was finally a chance to see what makes Tanner Scott tick, and more to the point, see if they can get rid of his addiction to Scotch, and make him the Captain that he is meant to be. Scott is easily one of the best characters (and the Main Character!!) of the series, so this was a brilliant start to the book. Add to that, there are multiple sub-plots also occurring simultaneously with the RIM and onboard the hospital ship, you can see why it is such a good book.
There is also a lot more of Lady St August in this book than in previous books, and that also makes this a stand out.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hospital Ship?

The dinner between Captain Scott and Lady St August had to be one of the memorable moments of Hospital ship, but no more is going to be said for spoilers.

Which scene was your favorite?

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Burnt Out Captain,
Assassins and Infiltrators everywhere,
The greatest prize in history,

Any additional comments?

Rudnick writes so well as he combines the Military, Royalty and Political situations into a story as well as the personalities of a few key characters to tell an interesting and engaging story. This is Military Sci-Fi as it should be, interesting, detailed, exciting, fun, with some really fast paced and well described combat scenes, as well as brilliant dialogue and intrigue across sectors of space. Exceptional effort
