About this listen

Lives restored to safety, health, and self-esteem through contact with horses.

There is no denying that the emotional bond between horses and the humans who love them can reach mystical proportions, and nowhere is that relationship more evident than in these 24 true-life accounts of horses rescuing people. Many of the stories recount incidents where death or physical injury was imminent, and only because a horse intervened are the narrators alive to tell the tale. Other chapters describe that other plane of salvation where contact with a horse through ownership, employment, or a variety of therapeutic programs has restored mental health, peace of mind, and self-esteem. Narrators include a 17-year-old Apache youth whom a horse-rescue project retrieved from drug abuse; a mother whose young son was about to be dragged to his death before the horse recognized the child’s plight; a Vietnam veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder whose work with horses keeps him on an even keel; and the owner of a Miniature Horse that serves as a “seeing eye” guide animal. As varied as the stories are, all share the same conclusion: “My horse saved my life.”

Very Inspirational

I loved listening to this audiobook because it reminds me how much Red, my quarter horse that I had for 20 years and was my dream to have a horse since I was a child. All the stories reinforces everything I know about the healing animals do for us and the unconditional love.

Robotic

I cannot listen to enough of this book to even evaluate the book itself. The narration is so monotone and devoid of emotion that it feels like a robot is simply saying a list of words.

Some lame stories, some good bits

I hope this was free (included in my membership), as it should be free. Oddly for a book, the featured horse owner or business is promoted at the end of each story. It reads like amateur tales you might swap with your friends while riding a long trek on horseback. Some of the factual claims are suspect, some of the 'saved my life' claims are a stretch. But still, it has horses in it (mostly the same breeds over and over though).
