Publisher's summary

He's a professional hockey player trying to survive on his new team. I'm just trying to survive.

I'm down to my last dollar. I live day-to-day in a world that doesn't care. Despite my bad luck, I'm a fighter. I never give up. I never stop trying.

Ryan Parker's wealth and generosity set him apart from anyone I know. Yet, I don't trust him. It's nothing personal. I trust no one. But when my bad luck takes a turn for the worse, one person shows up. Ryan Parker.

I do not understand why he bothered because the guy has enough of his own issues to deal with. But I don't have a choice. I need him. It's a matter of survival.

His friendship changed everything. It changed me. I started to believe in myself. I allowed myself to trust. And for the first time in a long time, I felt my heart beat again.

Contains mature themes.

Alex Kydd and Madeleine Dauer Are a Dream Team!

Surprising good story. Based on the cover image, I was worried this might be corny, but it was very sweet, funny, and entertaining. Could listen to Kydd talk all day. Seriously, not sure what is up with other reviewers. He has a great narrative voice. I will admit it takes a few seconds to get used to it, but once you try it, you're hooked! Can't wait to listen to Kydd and Dauer in the next one!

Great narrators! Lovely hockey romance

Zoey lives on the streets after being released from the foster system. She meets Ryan, a hockey player new to the Vancouver Wolves team who’s trying to get connected with his new teammates. He generously and without an agenda besides compassion, he gives Zoey a job as his personal assistant and a room of her own in his fancy apartment. After her time living rough she is initially suspicious of his motives until she truly sees that he’s a good man and begins to trust again.

Talented narrators bring the characters to life!

Ryan and Zoe

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Home Game by Odette Stone. Vancouver Wolves Hockey series, book 2. Audiobook review. Dual POV. Dual style narration. It's listed as 11 hours; I listened at speed 2.50 for 4 hours 24 minutes. Narrators Madeleine Dauer and Alex Kydd both read well. I'll never understand why so many authors use Alex Kydd to narrate American characters who aren't surfers, his foreign accents are great. Content warnings: adolescent orphaned; homelessness; brutal assault leaving a girl unconscious, severely injured, and hospitalized; foster child sexually assaulted by her foster parent; stalking; hockey related fights; jealous guy fight; and two stabbings.

Ryan Andrew Parker was just traded to the Vancouver Wolves Hockey team. Zobenia Petrik (aka Zoey) is a former foster child, now homeless even though she is working for a restaurant. Zoey and Ryan meet in a coffee shop where she helps him with a computer program and his receipts. Zoey misses the shelter curfew, so Ryan invites her to stay at his place. As Zoey leaves, Ryan gives her his business card in case she ever needs him. Zoey is attacked, and medical professionals find Ryan's card and contact him...

I have read and listened to this story many times and enjoy it every single time. JP

Good story, but...

One voice actor was a bit off. The dude (Alex Kydd) sounds like a creeper (I’m sorry, but it’s true) I’m wondering if that was his way of sounding Canadian? Either way, it failed. He was also a slow narrator (another character choice?) and that added to the creep factor and made the character sound unintelligent and dim witted. His Russian accent was good though, it was just the right amount of rough guttural to sound plausible without butchering the words. Overall, his voice wasn’t so bad to distract me from liking this story.
The story was good, with (very) slow character development. Angsty, with some good humor, revolving emotional doors that make you teary eyed, one seriously questionable decision, obsession with IKEA furniture, and a strong female character breakdown/build up.
Nice story, even if delivery (both voice and author) was a little off.

Loved every minute of this book

Several of this authors books are interconnected whether they are in the same series or not. I didn’t think that any of Odette’s books could live up to the Russian Mafia one about Olivia and Andrushka (probs butchered that spelling) - and then I read this one. My heart clenched so many times and I definitely shed more than a few tears. Such an all-around amazing book. The narrators are both good though neither are favorites of mine, but there weren’t any noticeable issues with the narration.

Absolutely a great story !

A homeless girl being rescued and given shelter by the handsome wealthy super supportive hockey player .
Zoey couldn’t believe that Ryan was helping her without not wanting something in return, after all she believes that was how all men operated.
But Ryan was here to proved otherwise, transferred to Vancouver where he was struggling to mesh with a team that seemingly didn’t want him around when he found Zoey who became his only friend apart from his agent.
Ryan was determined to help Zoey despite her protest.
But Zoey had a secret that threatened the new life she thought she could have after living on the streets for so long .

I Loved Ryan in how sweet attentive and kind he’s been towards Zoey .. loved how patient and possessive he’s become… but hated the part where he took his mom advice but then he wouldn’t be who he is ..a good person through and through .

While there’s part about this story I can’t get with I thought the Narrators did an amazing Job bring the Characters and story to life !
Alex Kydd who I have listened to before and Madeleine Dauber who’s new to me were so good on this audio love them !

Definitely a good one for me ..

Made me cry so hard….but could not stop reading.

Like book 1…it started and I found myself in tears…Great plot, unexpected plot. The hero doesn’t have any friends and the heroine has no one. How they end up becoming friends will have you wringing your hands, you’ll be angry, then you’ll stop reading, but your curiosity will get the best of you and you’ll start reading again. Only to find that now you can not stop reading /listening and then the crazy starts and the unexpected quite hilarious outcome will make your heart melt…but that’s not even the end of the story. I tried to savor this book, but I got up at 12:30 am PDT to read 2 more chapters…Great story!

Unique storyline!

I sure love me some Friends to Lovers stories, stories where the guy falls first, and stories with new spins. There’s so much going on throughout the book that I almost forgot it was the same people for a while. Tons of character growth over time. I also loved that this was a Genuine Good Guy Helps Homeless Girl Who is Doing Her Best.

Holy wow

I have not reviewed the first one yet, but I plan on it, but the second book in the series is awesome. I love the story of those two. I love just the little bit of suspense that’s in there. And the narration was perfect with all of those things you can’t go wrong.
