About this listen

Rico didn't get to be a mafia capo by trusting easily, but he never expected his newest employee, Kick, to be a threat.

The meat shop he runs is a perfect front to launder the family's money, but when a violent robbery leaves Kick hurt and shaken, Rico's control begins to slip. Drawn by a need to protect her, he finds himself opening up in ways he's never dared—and growing close to the one person who could ruin everything.

Kick just wanted a fresh start, a simple job far from the shadows of her past. But the night of the robbery changes everything. Because she couldn't tell Rico every detail. Like when she realized the tattoo on the arm of one of the robbers connects him to her own troubled past, pulling her into a dark web of secrets and danger.

The more she uncovers, the more she's forced to make an impossible choice: turn on Rico to protect herself or stay loyal to the man she's coming to love, even if it means risking everything.

In a world where betrayal is survival and love is weakness, giving her heart could cost her everything…

Each book in this series can be enjoyed as a standalone.

I felt so bad for Kick, and the Narrator does a fabulous job showcasing her fear every time her abuser showed back up to take her back. I was thrilled when the Esposito guy showed her what to do to do the most damage to him physically.

Rico is sexy AF, and I've been waiting for a while to be able to hear his voice, and I love that gravelly sound! "When the f*** did meat get so expensive?" Like all he's there to do is wash the money, and instead now he has to worry about the cost of product too? You can just hear the frustration bleading out in his voice.

I adored his concern for his employees, basically these are not Lombardi associates, they're just straight employees and now they've got to worry about nutjobs coming in to do more damage to the Family? That's not right.

Meanwhile Kick is trying to hide that it's her family taking advantage of Rico and his business, and she can't even get attached to her cat!

When Bastian finds out who's taking the money, I think he expected Rico to be more harsh, but he doesn't have all the facts. Once he does, he'll feel just as bad for Kick as Rico does.

The little convo Kick has with Saff is absolutely lovely, and really gives us some insight into Saff as a whole (nosey! 🤣) person! I died laughing when Kick wouldn't let her go searching through Rico's stuff.

Both the book, and the Audible made me sad for Kick, but thrilled that Rico is who he is and that Renzo is not such a bad guy after all.

A Sexy and Sad Survivors Tale!

I have read all of JG’s books and I’m so so excited to be “reading” them again as audiobooks. If you’re reading this, just listen to the book. You won’t regret it.

Giving voice to the characters was everything I dreamt it would be!
