live the story and then complicated lives of the characters that really make you relate to them. side note- I need a friend like zeke- seems pretty awesome lol

I forget almost every book after I’ve read it, but I haven’t stopped thinking about this one in over a year. I just gave it a re listen and I still love it. There is a lot of characters that are kinda hard to keep straight and some drama that goes on for longer than needs to, but I don’t care cuz I’m obsessed with Cruz.

I really liked this book and it held my attention all the way through! It had loveable characters and a great plot with lots of twists! The MMC really understood the MFCs boundaries and was patient while she worked through her trauma. He was able to be there for her without scaring her away too often! The progress she showed by the end was heart warming!
My only setback was the number of side characters. I really like a lot of them but there were so many that at times I couldn’t keep track of who was who. Not to mention, some of them got called by their first name sometimes and by their last name other times so that kind of confused me too. Just when I thought I finally got it down I would end up wandering who was who again!
Overall, I didn’t feel like that ruined the experience for me though and still enjoyed the book!

Tijan blows me away with another amazing novel, a contemporary college sports romance and wow, romance like no other. It is a complex and multilayered story, one that captured my attention right from the start and held it captive the entire time. The writing and plotting are fantastic, as are the world building and character growth and development. Mara, a college student, likes to keep herself distanced from everyone, but she also likes to get lost in someone else for pleasure and she found the right partner for that, a no strings, no friendship, only the benefits with Cruz, the college’s hockey team star player. Cruz has a lot going on in his life and does not have time for a serious relationship, so Mara’s arrangement fits the bill. And it all worked out perfectly until feelings got involved. I loved watching these two first navigate their non-relationship hookups and then seeing parts of their lives trickle into each other. Both had family drama and issues going on and demons in their closets, and my heart broke for them both. Mara wanted to keep it all to herself, not burden anyone with her problems, and not let anyone in. However, she never had the right people in her corner. There is never a dull moment in book, the drama is non-stop and there is plenty of angst, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Tijan, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride. 

🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic narration, Connor Crais and Desiree Ketchum did an amazing job portraying these characters and did so with a complete understanding of who they were, giving each a voice that suited that character and was believable in every role they played. Both completely nailed it in the lead roles, with Crais as Cruz, and Ketchum as Mara, they brought out all their emotions and had you feeling every single one. They were just as fabulous in covering the roles of the secondary characters, too. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to, and their performance enhanced this amazing story to another level. Thank you for another wonderful listen.

You can never go wrong with a Tijan book! Loved the glimpsed of characters from other amazing stories. Two thumbs up and 10 stars!!!

I don’t know where to start but grab some tissue s because will need them. There are lot of really serious topics addressed and my emotions are raw after experiencing this story. I would best describe this novel as heartbreakingly dramatic, streamy, romantic, inspiring but also emotionally exhausting. Sometimes, I forget how chaotic and messy life can be. I also forget to be thankful for all my blessings. I even forget to love and celebrate the great moments and people who are apart of my journey even if for a season. I want to thank Tijan and the amazing narrators for opening my eyes and making me aware of the emotional and mental pain/stress people cope with. Thank you for keeping me engaged, hopeful, and inspired.

This book was a little hard to follow with so many side characters but the core was really good. Mara and Cruz had a hook up relationship but once both of them face individual battles they were both there for each other.
