About this listen

For fans of Jacqueline Winspear, Laurie R. King, and Anne Perry, whip-smart heroine Maggie Hope returns to embark on a clandestine mission behind enemy lines where no one can be trusted, and even the smallest indiscretion can be deadly.

World War II has finally come home to Britain, but it takes more than nightly air raids to rattle intrepid spy and expert code breaker Maggie Hope. After serving as a secret agent to protect Princess Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, Maggie is now an elite member of the Special Operations Executive–a black ops organization designed to aid the British effort abroad–and her first assignment sends her straight into Nazi-controlled Berlin, the very heart of the German war machine. Relying on her quick wit and keen instincts, Maggie infiltrates the highest level of Berlin society, gathering information to pass on to London headquarters. But the secrets she unveils will expose a darker, more dangerous side of the war–and of her own past.

The story was good

The narrator was awful. Her pauses far to long. I knew where ever period and paragraph was in the book... I enjoy the story and at one point I even found myself jumping a few chapters to satisfy a fear I had and go back to listening..lol..

Very enjoyable!

I almost didn't get this book because of reviews of the narrator and fear of possible torture of the main character in Nazi Germany. Thankfully, I got it and it was excellent. The narrator is just fine and there is no graphic violence in the book. It is very similar to other books in the series as an informative and fascinating look behind the scenes of WWII. I know it's fiction, but the author does a great job of bringing the realities of war in both Germany and Britain to life! I'm so glad I found this series!

Another Great Hope thriller

the narrator's use of different languages and Foreign Accents makes this book even better. You get immersed in the story listening to her. You think it's different voices different characters when it's just the one narrator and she is superb. It adds a depth and a thrill to the story more so than if I actually read it. I love listening to these Maggie hope Mysteries.

Entertaining

What did you like best about this story?

A good addition to the series. Maggie is an interesting character although I found this one a little less suspenseful than the previous books. Still, it's an interesting time and the book does a good job of showing the humanity even in the horrors of World War II.

What three words best describe Susan Duerden’s voice?

She has a good voice and I know she can certainly do convincing characters. I didn't think her voicing of male characters here was very good though. Even the good guys sounded a bit sinister.

Good incite into WWII

Fun to read about a woman spy. Loved it. On to the next. I'm addicted. Maggie also has great difficulty being a spy.

Time for Maggie to grow up

Found the narrator’s voice annoying especially when using a German accent. Also. After 3 books - a bit tired of Maggie’s 1/2 intelligent and 1/2 naive personality.
