Publisher's summary

Sir Payton Murray's reputation as a lover is rivalled only by his prowess with the sword, yet it is the latter gift that has captured the interest of Kirstie MacLye. Fleeing a murderous husband who left her for dead, she vows to expose the man for the vile scoundrel that he is. She also knows it will take planning, cunning, and the help of a brave, arrogant, and willing champion. Kirstie only prays that Sir Payton will accept her challenge.

Though he risks the ire of his own clan and hers, Payton cannot ignore Kirstie's desperate plea or her captivating beauty. For he knows that nothing will deter the spirited lass from bringing an evil man to justice, even if she must do it alone. Joining her on this crusade, he embarks upon a dangerous quest against a powerful enemy only too eager to destroy them both.

Critic reviews

"One of Hannah Howell's best books in recent years, Highland Angel touched me deeply. The heavy overtones of abuse compel you to root for the hero and heroine because you are intensely involved in the story. I truly love this book, and it is definitely going on my keeper shelf." ( RT Book Reviews)

Not Where l Kneed My Bread

Much darker than most of the other adventures. No graphic scenes but the subject matter alone may not be suitable for any one who has experienced or witnessed abuse. The publishers summery is spot on so no need to add to it. I could not listen straight through as the darkness of the overall subject was heartbreaking, and of course author chose not to have much humor as the underlaying subject made it difficult to add humor, nay ok just a wee bit with all of young Calicum daggers. The author could have added more humor when the various family members came to visit!! This story and Tourmonte’s , Avery and Cameron son, are not light hearted and witty as books 5,6,10 my faves, and these are NOT to be missed.
This is Payton’s story, Averys book 5 brother, and Brett and Harcourt brother and son of Niegel Murray book 2. Young Calicum In this adventure has his own story as do Brett and Harcourt when all 3 are grown men.
The Scotts brogue Ms Dawe does has none better in a performance. From wee childeren to hunky men, she is the best.

Absolutely Enjoyable

Enjoyed all the characters, the children, and families. I see there will be another story showing how the one child (boy) life is about to change for the better.

Highland Angel

In this story of the Murray family Payton meets his match. Kirstie is on the run from her beast of a husband. He has tried to kill her. She is not hiding by herself. She has five children that she has taken under wing. She asks Payton to be her champion is her quest to get the children away from her husband. I won't spoil the story by tell the secret here. But in true Payton form he is after her to bed. What happens when her husband finds out she is still alive? What about the children? Why the need to keep them safe? But will Payton find his true mate in this woman or will she end up just another married woman under his belt? I had read this years ago and enjoyed the story line then also.

Love the Murray's

What made the experience of listening to Highland Angel the most enjoyable?

I love the Murray family. The way they take in all that need it/them. The men and women make up their mind that they want someone and there is no turning back for them! Ready to move on to the next one!!!

The Bonnie Sir Payton

This book is wonderful as are all the books in this series. The content is and was a horrible realty. The champions in this book are show beauty doesn’t compare to honor and truth no matter how grim is better to share especially when others could be sparred the cruel treatments. So Callum with is wee pointy dagger is the overall champion in my eyes!!! I can’t wait to read / listen to his adult story again!!!

Very interesting this time, but different

This book is a little different from the usual fare of Ms. Howell but still excellent. I think it needs to have a little bit of a spoiler. This book deals with sexual situations which is usual, however, it goes beyond the usual in that the villain is a sexual pervert. He likes little boys and very little girls to the point that he cannot perform with adult women including his wife. After five years of marriage he has not consummated their marriage. He is also a harsh and abusive man to women so much so that he tries to kill his wife by drowning her because she has figured out what his proclivities are and he wants to keep his secrets. She survives the attempt because he didn’t realize she knew how to swim and she saves herself from the River. This is basically the beginning of the story and it develops from there. The story has all the elements that you have come to expect from Howell with snappy dialogue, well developed characters, recurring characters, and the usual twists and turns in the plot. I only give the spoiler because some readers do not want to read stories with such perversions. She does not describe the acts but unfortunately in this day and age of television such situations are known by everyone and some people prefer not to read about such people. So be warned.
