Kennedy Layne
USA Today best-selling author Kennedy Layne follows up with a second thrilling story in this addictive dystopian series that will leave you up at night wondering if the end is truly near....
There were a few things that got Owen Quade through his multiple combat tours. One was the dream of riding a custom motorcycle on a winding mountain road. The former Marine had finally managed to complete that goal, and along the way he'd gained his own bike shop and the mechanic to go with it. She was a rare beauty, and he wasn't talking about his bike either.
Prue Whitaker preferred working on engines over rubbing shoulders with people, and that included her boss. She'd learned the hard way that men weren't as reliable as the hogs she could repair and she kept her distance from those who didn't feel the same way. She'd been successful until she'd recently shared a scorching kiss with Owen.
One phone call had changed everything. A catastrophic event is on the verge of occurring, forcing them to pack up and leave everything behind. Prue is driven to trust Owen, who's given his word that he can get her to safety. Through the endless days of darkness, passion, and intrigue await them as they make their way through ashes and into the flames of tomorrow.

Another Great Book!

6 hours is just Owen and Prue on the road from Florida to Washington while ash floats down from the Yellowstone eruption.
On the apocalypse end:
There’s the ubiquitous telling rather than showing, with characters constantly noting that disaster brings out the worst in people. There’s also too much detail on prepping where I’d have liked to know anything about how the rest of the world was dealing with the start of a decade-long ash cloud. Only in the final
2 hours is there a smattering of interaction with the previous MCs and the small town regulars like Tank. At this point, it’s clear none of the books will extend past the initial days of ash-fall, making the apocalypse part unfulfilling.
On the romance end:
I liked that Prue, as a mechanic, tough-lady, and knife expert, was more capable than the previous FMC, who’s best trait was her model looks. I also liked that the dynamic between this couple was more fiesty, including livelier sex. However, the narrator embraced the cheese with his exaggerated voicing.
The comic book delivery worked alright for the villains and the apocalypse side, but egads was it ever cringe during the sex scenes. The moans, groans, and cries of ecstasy played out more like cries of agony … or maybe those were my cries of horror … it was that bad. And not in a so bad it’s good kind of way;
it was a me desperately trying to find the FF button before it killed my nooky loving soul kind of way.
Nothing but ash and sass
