Publisher's summary

Heroes Returned Trilogy is a compilation of three books - My Favorite Major, The English Lieutenant's Lady, and To Catch a Captain...

My Favorite Major

When her longtime fiancé returns home from the victory at Waterloo, Amelia Pritchard suspects he's not the noble, upstanding gentleman she's always believed him to be. After breaking their betrothal, she flees to London with the hope of starting her life over and putting the past firmly behind her.

Battle weary Major Philip Moore finds himself intrigued by the lovely Miss Pritchard. Though he's recovering from a broken heart of his own, more than just his honor urges him to protect the lady when her nefarious ex-beau arrives in Town with the most wicked of intentions.

The English Lieutenant's Lady

Phoebe Greywood has waited quite a while for her betrothed to return home from the Peninsular Wars, but when he finally does, she's heartbroken to discover he's changed in more ways than one. Most alarmingly, he doesn't seem to care one whit about her anymore. But one man who hasn't changed a bit after his time on the continent is her betrothed's boorish brother…

When the truth of Tristan's feelings for Phoebe become clear, his own honor is put to the test and all of his plans for the future are turned upside down.

To Catch a Captain

After receiving what seems like an offer of employment from an English countess, orphan Bridget Kelly leaves her uncle's house in Dublin to make her own way in the world. But making her way in England is easier said than done, especially for an innocent Irish lass with no family or connections. In fact, she'll be lucky if she can make it to Derbyshire alive.

Great read and nice listen..

MY FAVORITE MAJOR

A nice novella in this trilogy. Book One was about Philip and Amelia, who were a perfect couple. Philip was being a terrible grouch because the woman he loved fell in love with someone else and married him while Philip was fighting Napolean. Philip knew Olivia his whole life so it made sense that he thought he loved her. That is, until he met Amelia. And she did bring a lot of grief into his life.

It had just enough excitement to keep me interested, including our hero getting shot in the back by the bad guy.

I liked Cordelia (Cordie) and her brothers Russell and Tristan. I liked Kelly and Byrne, and what the author did to them was uncalled for, IMO. Also, Mason was simply a killer. He didn’t care who he had to kill to get what he wanted.

There was explicit sex in this story but no swearing.

THE ENGLISH LIEUTENANT’S LADY

I really liked Philip and Amelia from the first book and Tristan and Phoebe from this book BUT if the author wanted you to dislike Russell in both books she succeeded. I’m not even sure I want to read the last book because of his attitude toward Tris and Phoebe.

Russell and Phoebe were betrothed but Russell didn’t really love her and he was sleeping with anything that walked, eeww. Tristan DID love Phoebe and was willing to join the army in Canada in order to let Russell and Phoebe be together without his interference or longing for her. Then Phoebe realized she loved Tris and they eloped to Gretna Green. And when they got back that’s when Russell made a jerk of himself. I just couldn’t stand him and that’s who the final book is about.

There was explicit sex in this book, too. But not much swearing.

TO CATCH A CAPTAIN

This one was better than I thought it would be. Russell went from being a manwhore and self-absorbed jerk to not being able to get it up when he went to a brothel. I thought that was pretty funny.

The one problem I had with this book was that on audible these novellas were said to be 1-3 but on Amazon they was 5, 6 and 7 in the Scandalous series. It was rather confusing at times. I felt like I should have read something them.

At any rate, this was good but it was still my least favorite.

I did like Bridget and I was glad she got her HEA, thanks to Cordie’s machinations.

There was one heavy make-out session in this story but no real sex. And no horrible swearing.

As to the narration: These audible books were released in January and February of 2014 and even though Stevie Zimmerman did ok in these stories she’s come a long way since then. She’s become one of my top 5 female narrators. Her voices and emotions are simply awesome now. In these she seemed to lose track of whether or not it was a male or female talking and her men didn’t speak as deeply as they do in her later books. But because she has such a nice reading voice I, mostly, enjoyed it.

Three very good short stories.

What did you like best about this story?

I rarely like short stories because they always feel rushed. These however were handled nicely and didn't feel like short stories. Nicely written with a good flow.
