She always wanted everything her big sister had.
Evie Laurent grew up in the shadow of her perfect older sister, Luna. Since they were young girls, she’d always longed to be a part of Luna’s attractive social circle.
Evie gets her wish later in life when she begins dating Kyle Turner, a friend of her sister’s.
But Kyle is not just a grown-up version of the handsome boy he used to be. The new Kyle is secretive and controlling, going so far as trying to stop Evie from purchasing her dream home - a house that seems oddly familiar to her and Luna’s entire group of friends.
Evie buys the house anyway and soon discovers disturbing evidence she’s been there before. But why can’t she remember?
If these walls could talk, the house might tell her everything.

If you're a fan of mystery stories that are far from cozy but also not dripping with gore this one's a great read.

Her Sister’s Friends is about a young girl who idolized her older sister’s friend group when she was eleven and they were in their late teens. She was the annoying kid sister that would tag along with their antics.
Jump forward a couple decades and she is now in her mid 30’s, dating the hunk of her sister’s friend group and at work is given a challenge. She finds a great deal on a house to purchase, refurb and flip – however she is warned away from the house without explanation. When she visits she feels déjà vu – she has been there before but has no recollection. When she asks her sister or her friends they all resolutely deny having ever been there.
She stumbles upon physical evidence proving at least one of them had been there – but why lie about it? That is where the mystery really begins – why were they there, what happened that night and what will the fallout be even 24 years later?
The story is told in modern day (2021 recent with references to very current events) and in a series of flashbacks as little by little the truth is uncovered.
This is a psychological thriller – but the relationships between family and friends is the real heart of it. Gia Pere balances pathos with humor and heart. The story defies you to put it down. The story and its implications will stay with you.
I won’t spoil anything but there is discussion of sexuality (including teenage promiscuity), substance abuse and self harm. Almost all of these actions are “off screen” and it is never graphic nor insensitive in its depictions. If these are triggers I would suggest you stay away and try a lighter novel by Angela Pepper.
Tiffany Williams always puts in a stellar performance and no less here – giving unique but recognizable voices to characters young and old. She is always a delight to listen to.
This was an interesting book to listen to and I could definitely see value in re-reading it with knowledge of what happens to pick up on previous hints/clues and just to spend more time with these 3 dimensional characters.

The story itself (what did really happen at that solstice party, so many years ago?) is intriguing and we are getting little bits and pieces of it through flashbacks while Evie keeps asking questions and getting no real answers. But the relationship between all of the characters is what really at the core of the story.
Friendships and romances; broken hearts and lies (to others and themselves); little betrayals and undeniable sisterly love... It's fascinating because none of them is perfect, none of them is a bad person, either. They are people trying to live their lives the best they can. This is a story about kids that, one night, made more than one mistake and about the adults they become.
I must say, I didn't see the end coming, at all. I was fooled more than once by the twists in this story, and it was done so well that I can't be sore about it *laughs*
A great mystery, really worth of your time.
And, as always, Tiffany Williams does a fantastic job with the narration.

Mysteries tend to be either cozy (cute) or gory. This is neither. It’s hellishly realistic without the blood and guts of super-realism.
I loved this story. Going back and forth in time, but at the right times to keep the story moving forward. Filling in the blanks in Evie’s mind a little at a time, her questioning nature pushes to solve the mystery of why she feels she has previously been to a house that she bought to flip for her boss.
The relationships between the characters were what was really real. Sibling rivalry, hero worship (Evie idolized her sister’s friends when she was 11), and the disappointment of finding that the adults in your life were flawed when you were a child. We all seem to find that out when we become the failing adults!
This new penname for Angie Pepper / Angela Pepper is for her darker musings. I say, “muse away!” This was fabulous.
Narrator: Tiffany Williams is always wonderful as a narrator and did a beautiful job of creating unique voices for each character (though Zoe Riddle’s voice was in there as a new character – I guess that can’t be helped.)

She wins a bid on a house she feels she has been in before. Her sister and her boyfriend and their friends say she hasn't. When she finds a drawing in one of the closets, she knows she is being lied to. In trying to find the truth, she ends up dredging up more than just the party she attended. She learns of a dark side to her boyfriend which puts her life in danger.
The story is well written and keeps you guessing about what happened the night of the Solstice party.
Sometimes what you wish for isn't what you want.

This is also one of the most boring, cringy books I’ve read in a while. Don’t waste a credit.
The main character talks in a high childlike voice that makes me cringe … hard. The book is hot mess with zero substance.
Why the good reviews?ugh…
