About this listen

The Eagles are the best-selling, and arguably the tightest-lipped, American group ever. Now band member and guitarist Don Felder finally breaks the Eagles’ years of public silence to take fans behind the scenes.

He shares every part of the band’s wild ride, from the pressure-packed recording studios and trashed hotel rooms to the tension-filled courtrooms and from the joy of writing powerful new songs to the magic of performing in huge arenas packed with roaring fans.

Don Felder, creator of “Hotel California”, survived the battering of two narcissistic, controlling band members, who despite being very talented, did not appreciate the talent and contributions of other band members who made them so successful. It was like being the younger brother in an abusive family. When Henley and Frey refused to include Felder in the Eagles induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (not mentioned in this book), I lost so much respect for them. I’m happy Felder stood up to them. Don Henley still hires dozens of people, at minimum wage, to scour the Internet searching to block anyone using Eagles music. He’s so money hungry that he cannot see the damage he’s doing to himself, Eagles fans, and the band. The Internet is free advertising for the Eagles. But he sees it a money lost. None of this last part is in the book. Don Felder was kind enough to leave it out.

Felder was the gentleman. “The Gods” caused so much destruction. They could have been so much more.

Survivor of “the Gods” abuse

I enjoyed it very much. I thought the narrator was too flat, dull. But I would recommend it.

Interesting insights from the inside.

What an amazing life! The lives that your music has touched is phenomenal, and those lives that touched yours wow, you're a lucky man.

Great writing and great story of a great band! Very entertaining to hear Don's side of the story. I felt Don was truly giving his honest take on things.

As a longtime fan I enjoyed this book; a lot of which was already known, and some not. In my opinion, Felder was an underdog, but I admire his tell all honesty and humility. The old saying that “anger destroys the vessel that encapsulates it” may have held true for some of his band mates, but this underdog prevailed same, sober and successful.

Genuine

I didn’t know much about the author but I grew up listening to Eagles music, so many great songs and memorable guitar solos, It was nice to get to know the man who burnt those guitar solos into my brain forever. Seems honest, Mr Felder doesn’t let himself off the hook, take responsibility for his own mistakes, that being said, it’s shocking how the ego’s of Glenn & Don allowed them to keep a band together at all, they have no empathy or gratitude much like narcissists. Don Felder’s story is a classic American fantasy that few actually get to achieve. I recommend this book, though I didn’t love the reader, I’ve heard that voice for other books so it was slightly distracting but I liked the book.

Amazing Life, Great Stories.

Didn’t know that the Eagles leaders were such tyrants … sad to hear how they treated so many

As a huge Eagles fan, I really enjoyed listening to this book! I fell in love with the band when I was in HS in the early 90s and they are still one of my favorite bands. Don’t let any negative reviews keep you from listening to their story from Don Felder, someone who lived it.

Really, Really Good!

Everyone knows the Eagles and everyone knows that they didn't get along but until reading this book I had no idea how much I actually enjoyed their music and how messed up of a group they were. This is more than a revenge book and the stories and narrative are compelling and interesting. Definitely a worthy listen.

Great Book Eagles Fan or Not

A beautiful and insightful look into the Eagles by their lead guitar player , Don Felder. Very personal and well balanced , it portrays life in the Eagles as only a member can provide. Don Felder seems very fair in his assessment of the bands successes and failures.
Very well narrated
Can’t say enough good things about it. Five stars!

Amazingly Well Written and Read
