Alright Book, Decent Information, Bad Narration

This is a decent book that does a good job at summarizing a lot of different invention, business, and entrepreneurial skills. I wouldn’t describe it as all encompassing, but it’s better than most. The real downside with this audible version is that it is extremely hard to listen too. The narrator has a robotic, stochastic voice that I found to be irritating. It seemed like other reviews didn’t mind, so it may be a personal preference, but I feel like a text to speak computer software would have been more human like than this narrator. It almost felt like every sentence was read and recorded separately, then cut back together in editing. I wouldn’t listen to it again, but if you have no experience with early stage business strategy or when and why to patent or trade mark, this is a good place to start for foundation knowledge.

An outstanding book for inventors/founders

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve been studying the steps that many successful inventors take for over 15 years and I’ve licensed one of my ideas. However, I still have a lot to learn, and this book served as an excellent guide.

I particularly like all of the personal anecdotes from the author, like information about why one of his prototypes worked well and why another one didn’t. I also appreciate the many success stories from individuals who shared their experiences of licensing and venturing their products and ideas.

In my opinion, every inventor should add this to their must read list.

Best Invention/Patent/Business Book I’ve Read

Would you listen to Hardcore Inventing again? Why?

Yes, there is a lot of useful advice.

Any additional comments?

This book is well written and narrated. To write a book on the invention process, is quite difficult. I have found that most of the books in this genera over simplify and over generalize the process. The authors beautifully blend practical real life stories with concepts of invention, patenting, and bringing your invention to market. This not only motivates the reader but also helps the reader understand the lessons for success.

Great book, bad narration

This book does a great job of giving useful tips on developing ideas, protecting them, and marketing them. It references many useful resources and I could really see how an inventor could use this to help them get their product to market. The author is witty, writes very well, and provides insight.

The narrator, however, made listening to it an absolute chore. I would have turned it off if I wasn't determined to hear the content of the book. The narrator has a robotic cadence devoid of any emotion. Every story or joke was told without any inflection or warmth, which ruined the intended effect of the author. Additionally, the narrator's robotic reading was worsened by the moaning or groaning of the last syllable of every sentence. He made the ending syllable of almost every sentence two or three syllables long. I had to keep stopping and switching to music just to make it through.
