Publisher's summary

Happy, Joyous, and Free is the intensely personal, deeply intimate story of Juris S' journey from spiritual death to abundant life. Dr. S takes the listener into his mind and heart to demonstrate how the belief systems that were constructed early in his childhood drove his actions and behaviors as an adult. Being strongly scientifically minded with minimal spiritual direction, he began as a militant atheist who chased the delusion of the "American dream". Once that was obtained, he found himself disenchanted with life despite having everything he believed he ever wanted to be happy, fulfilled, and satisfied. This led him through several addictions that ultimately landed him in rehab for alcoholism - a medical disease with a spiritual solution.

The spiritual, psychological, and mental changes that occurred are examined and processes explained. The later chapters of the audiobook present practical ideas and techniques that can be readily applied to enable and empower the listener to live a life that is happy, joyous, and free. Throughout the audiobook, there are immutable practical and spiritual truths. These truths are easy to remember and can be considered modern-day proverbs that transform the mind and renew the heart. His story is the most powerful manifestation of the power of God in his life. The miracle of his journey from spiritual death to abundant life is revealed, no less amazing than empowering a paralyzed man to walk.

A must-read for every man and woman!

What an amazing book! And I'm not even an alcoholic. I think the author is right, though, in that we're all addicted to something. It may not be alcohol or drugs, but everyone has something. And unless it's God, it's the wrong thing.

The author not only points out so many mistakes we all do or believe, but he gives doable action steps to take. We really need a program like AA in the church for those of us with the more "acceptable" addictions.

I can't reccomend this book enough! I owned the hard copy first, and when I found out it was on Audible I had to get it. It's been even more powerful the 2nd time through. It'll probably be something I listen to a couple times every year.

Woah!!!

This book is honest and that’s the best part about it. I look for truth in a lot of who I want to be and to me that’s what a true walk with Christ is. I also like how the author exposes himself and shows how a transformation is possible through work and commitment to God. This is definitely a must read!

You need to know this content

I, myself, have never struggled with alcoholism, but I have struggled with secret sin and some of the behaviors are the same. This book came to me at a time when I needed it the most because a close friend came out with his alcoholism. This book gives you a peek behind the AA curtain and can equip you with some tools to help walk alongside loved ones who are struggling with this.

Excellent Book

This is an excellent story of both the power of addiction and the redemptive power of Jesus! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is struggling with or knows someone is struggling with addiction.

Authentic Struggle and True Victory

Juris’s book is an authentic, heart, wrenching story of the struggle of someone who from the world’s standards had everything”. Ultimately, he found that what the world defined as successful was not fulfilling. To deal with his despair, he numbed himself with alcohol. Even those who do not struggle with alcohol abuse, can relate to this, as all of us use something to numb our pain, whether it be over eating; pornography; drugs; the Internet; shopping; gambling; social media. People say that unless the person struggling hits “rock-bottom“ that they will not see help. Juris’s story shows that loved ones can elevate that bottom. He was able to get help before he had completely destroyed his life. He found hope through AA and the big book. He worked the program as it should be worked and now is happy, joyous, and free as his book states. I know this to be true because I met him recently while on vacation. He defines his higher power as Jesus Christ and is not hesitant at all to share who saved him.
