About this listen

Texas never had a law against being stupid. Young Trace LaFon counted that a good thing or he'd never have lived long enough to become a Texas Ranger or partnered up with Xavier Falcon. But the two become a part of history the very first time the Rangers were ever used as an arm of law enforcement in the Lone Star state.

Guns Along the Rio is the first of this pair's adventures as both they and the Rangers grow up on the Texas Frontier gaining experience and wisdom mixed with a lot of cowboy common sense and humor. As any cowpoke knows, good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Colorful and historical characters make up this tale based on The Cortina War along the Rio Grande in 1859.

Enjoyable

I got this book via audiobook boom. I loved this western. it was a quick listen and the narrator matched the story. I loved all of it but the last line made me laugh out loud. It is well worth listening to even if it is to get to the last line. There were many other one liners that were good but that one was the best.

Witty Smart Writing

The publisher summary uses the word "colorful" to describe the characters. I can think of no better word for the characters and storyline. Much if not all of the story is set in or around Brownsville Texas. (See what I did there?)

From an innocent youth to a more experienced adult, I could not help but fall in love with main character Trace LaFon.

With lines like, "There are two theories in how to deal with women and neither of them works." I fell in love with Jack R. Stanley!

Full of smart and clever lines along with three-dimensional characters and unbelievable situations (unbelievable as in 'you can't make this stuff up') this book kept me engaged from the start.

Ben Tyler brought the characters to life; above average performance.

This is the first in the series titles "The Texas Ranger Chronicles." If given an opportunity, I would not hesitate to listen to more in the series. However, Book 1 is the only one available on audio at this date (2017.)

Texas Rangers!!!

Ben Tyler delivered a well accented sound picture with exceptional character delineation. I will look for more by Jack R. Stanley. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Great Book!

Enjoyed the book. Told with a simple story and the narration was great. Well worth the credit if you like westerns!
