About this listen

From an outstanding new voice in cozy fantasy comes Greenteeth, "a joyful, warm-hearted" (H. G. Parry) tale of fae, folklore, and found family, narrated by a charismatic lake-dwelling monster with a voice unlike any other, perfect for fans of Travis Baldree and TJ Klune.

Beneath the still surface of a lake lurks a monster with needle sharp teeth. Hungry and ready to pounce.

Jenny Greenteeth has never spoken to a human before, but when a witch is thrown into her lake, something makes Jenny decide she's worth saving. Temperance doesn't know why her village has suddenly turned against her, only that it has something to do with the malevolent new pastor.

Though they have nothing in common, these two must band together on a magical quest to defeat the evil that threatens Jenny's lake and Temperance's family, as well as the very soul of Britain.

Critic reviews

"Greenteeth is a delight--a joyful, warm-hearted adventure, riddled with unique characters and poignant friendships, rooted deep in old magic and myth. Jenny's voice will live in your head long after you leave her story behind."—H. G. Parry, author of The Magician’s Daughter
"Greenteeth is a breathtaking quest through the wild roads and deep lakes of ancient England, shot through with dark folklore and darker magic. An unforgettable tale of unlikely friendships, impossible choices and the unbreakable bonds between mothers and daughters."—Holly Race, author of Six Wild Crowns
"An enchanting folkloric fantasy infused with fae magic and Arthurian legend, Greenteeth gives us a morally grey heroine with bite you can't help but root for. I was hooked from start to finish."—Alicia Jasinska, author of The Dark Tide

Editorial Review

Quests are better with friends
I’ve had an insatiable appetite for monster fiction since last year’s Someone You Can Build a Nest In, so Molly O’Neill’s debut rocketed to the top of my list this winter. Greenteeth’s monstrous protagonist is Jenny, a centuries-old lake monster who rescues Temperance, a witch who has been cast out of her home and tossed to her death in Jenny’s lake. What follows is a story of friendship and adventure that left me utterly smitten. Catrin Walker-Booth brings such authenticity and charm to these characters. Cosy fantasy fans, I hope your tea is already steeping for this one. —Sam D., Audible Editor

I’d like this book, though it took me a bit of time to get into it less than a chapter. The story is interesting and it takes quite a few turns and twists. I really liked the weaving of the art and legend in it and the use of the Faye Court and the mythological beasts

The story did credit to the Arthurian legend and some of the mythological beings that supposedly inhabited Britain

The performance is the best I’ve ever heard! The story has interesting twists and turns. The main character, a fey creature, will capture your heart and imagination. The main trio of characters were all unique and stood out in their identities from each other. I loved the ending; truly worthy of this exceptional little story. 5 Stars

excellent, well written, engaging and a little stressful as any climax in a great book is. I hope there will be more adventures in this world

Absolutely Lovely!

Greenteeth uses Arthurian legend as a backstory to a delightful adventure story with strong characterization and tone. I love a story about fey that’s able to capture the ethereal mess of the high fey while thoroughly grounding the rest in a world that feels lived-in. What the story lacks in individual character arcs, it makes up for with strong visuals and visceral action. Some of the dramatic beats can feel jam-fisted and overly drawn out, and a couple twists and turns along the way feel clunky in their execution, but overall, a stellar take on a post-Arthur Britain full of magic and life.

Excellent original Arthurian fantasy

The story, characters & reader were amazing. I hated for the book to end. I want another story.

This was a fun little quest with the lake monster and a witch. There were a lot of fun fantastical elements (goblins, dragons, etc) and a bit of the English Arthurian legend woven in.
There were a couple times where I felt like it was dialogue heavy, and the story got a little slow.
There was no romance in this book and I’d consider this a pretty clean fantasy.

Enjoyable but there were some misses.

Clean fantasy with fun premise
