About this listen

How do you define yourself when others have already decided who you are?

Six years ago, when Camden Daniels came back from war without his younger brother, no one in the small town of Alba, Colorado, would forgive him - especially his father. He left, swearing never to return.

But a desperate message from his father brings it all back. The betrayal. The pain. And the need to go home again.

But home is where the one person he still loves is waiting. Willow. The one woman he can never have. Because there are secrets buried in Alba that are best left in the dark.

If only he could tell his heart to stay locked away when she whispers she's always loved him, and always will...

Contains mature themes.

Tackling Hard Issues with Compassion

A great listen. An enduring love that faces challenges of life histories that involve the war in Afghanistan, family tragedy, and early onset Alzheimer’s. Addresses the challenges of the rights of persons with Alzheimer’s to determine exercise their personhood through questions around extreme life saving measures. An easy story to follow, and a gripping listen.

Realistic and heartwarming

Rebecca Yarros doesn't disappoint with her awesome storytelling! The love between Camden and Willow was so strong that it held true even after big misunderstandings, heartbreaking loss, and many years apart. It was heartwarming to see how he stood by his father even when he wasn't wanted and while being mistreated by everyone. Having taken care of a family member with Alzheimers, I can honestly say that this story felt very real. All the issues that arise, all the frustration for the person going through it, but also all the pain of the family were very accurate.

Narration was great! I love Carly Robbins and while it was my first time listening to Eric Michael Summerer, I can say that I'm now a fan. Great job!

WOW! What a great story!!

First, I must say I love Rebecca Yarros’ books. I was hooked with the first book I read by her which was The Last Letter (which is still my absolute favorite of all the books I’ve read. After reading this book, I now have a second favorite book.

The story grabs you at the beginning and doesn’t let go until the last chapter. I love when this author writes characters as real people with real diseases. In this book a character has dementia. You can feel the frustration from the person’s prospective as well as the family and friends. The book brings up several important issues such as a person having a “legal” Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order in place.

You will not regret purchasing and reading this beautiful book!

Beautiful!

One small issue I had with the audio quality was the woman’s voice fluctuated in volume too much. Some times I had to crank up the volume and then she would change and it would be blasting my ear drums.

Now onto the story review. Such a sweet, well written love story! This felt like a true believable forbidden romance in the beginning, a real hurdle to overcome. Then the story progressed making me love and relate to every single character written. Most books I could care less about the side characters, sisters, brothers, parents, etc. This one had me wanting to hear and know more about each one. The struggles they all experienced weren’t forced, they felt like everyday real people. No one was a perfect person showing that everyone makes mistakes.

Good read!

Story line was good. Loved the male voice but the female voice was almost a whisper.
