Story
When Jon Katz got a call from an animal control officer about Simon, a neglected donkey who had been found on a failing farm in upstate New York, he wasn't expecting to add another animal to his already full life. But when he made the trek out to meet him, he couldn't help falling in love with the skinny, mangy donkey who had already suffered so much, and he ended up taking him into his home. It was Simon who listened in the fields as Jon read to him and discussed philosophy.

Story
In 2007, a few years after purchasing Bedlam Farm in upstate New York, Jon Katz met Maria Wulf, a quiet, sensitive artist hoping to rekindle her creative spark. Jon, like her, was introspective yet restless, a writer struggling to find his purpose. He felt a connection with her immediately, but a formidable obstacle stood in the way: Maria' s dog, Frieda. A rottweiler-shepherd mix who had been abandoned by her previous owner in the Adirondacks, where she lived in the wild for several years, Frieda was ferociously protective and barely tamed.

Story
Communications from beloved pets are seen by thousands every day. Some messages are given in ways that require an acute awareness and more interpretation as well. From the heavens above, signs are given by deceased pets to connect with their families they left behind. Oftentimes, the gifts they share are unseen or are difficult to identify. Learning to speak the language of spirit requires practice, but once identified, the joy of hearing from your pet in spirit can bring great comfort.

Story
Our pets are part of the family. For many they're as close as children; for some they may be our only children. And while most of us can expect that our children will outlive us, sadly, our pets almost never do. Losing a pet can be as difficult as losing any other family member; we grieve, we miss them, and, mostly, we want closure, to know that our furry, feathered, or scaled friends are okay, wherever they are. For years, animal communicator Sonya Fitzpatrick has helped pet owners cope with the loss of their beloved companions. Many of them ask the same questions: Is my pet happy?

Very helpful for dealing with grief
I listened to this the day after saying goodbye to my dog of 15 years. It helped me acknowledge my grief and begin to heal. I recommend it to anyone with a pet, whether losing them now or not. Someday they will go, and this book may help you prepare for that inevitable transition. I highly recommend this book and can’t say enough good things about it.

Comforting to a recent loss of best fur-friend.
What made the experience of listening to Going Home the most enjoyable?
Good story.
What does Tom Stechschulte bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Comforting to hear an actual voice.
What did you learn from Going Home that you would use in your daily life?
It's ok to think about having another pet without guilt.
Any additional comments?
Well written using the author's own experience from another book, in which I was very curious and cannot wait to start this new book I just purchased. My beloved dog meant so much top me for so many years. I find myself at lost and cast adrift as she was our anchor of our life. Who am I going to come home for a loving walk with the summer breeze now??

Grounded and heart felt
Some people may not agree with everything in this book, as far as the difference between farm animals and pets. I don't entirely agree with it. The author's perspective is written in a grounded and compassionate way however, and is healing to listen to.

I am so thankful to have found this book. We had to let go of our 5-year-old dobie and were so broken. We’d never lost a dog before and our emotions are all new to us. Really appreciate this book and the writer for opening his heart to us to help us understand and heal. Truly brought some peace to our hearts

Awesome book!
What made the experience of listening to Going Home the most enjoyable?
This book could not have come at a better time. We just lost our beloved dog Dakota. We were in so much pain and sorrow and Jon Katz helped us navigate this difficult time with love, compassion and truth for our family. He validated our feelings and understands the grieving process. I am buying several copies of this books so my vet can give them out to his animals owners as they say good bye to their loving dogs, cats and horses. Ron

A new perspective to allow for forward movement
This book provides examples and new ways of thinking about relationships with pets and their loss. It is very helpful to think of new perspectives and find the ability to let go. Moving on is a crucial part of grieving and this book will help you get there.

Helpful
I wish I read this before my 17 year old pup passed away. I read a couple other pet loss books prior to this one but this one was the most emotional and hit me harder than the other books. I enjoyed the narration and the author put things into perspective that I wouldn't have otherwise thought about.

Going Home
After a lifetime of animals in my life, I am proud to have been a parent to One dog and over 20 cats. Currently have 13 living with me now. This book has taught me that the greatest pleasure in my life has been and is living with my animals. As a single person, they are my life and now I realize I have always treated them with great respect, as well as in life, death and euthanasia. I still feel and hear them sometimes and it makes me smile. Thank you for writing this book and confirming what I have always known. Animals will always be part of me. And I have not been imagining any of it. Thank You
