Publisher's summary

In 1993, Andrew Brunson was asked to travel to Turkey, the largest unevangelized country in the world, to serve as a missionary. Though hesitant because of the daunting and dangerous task that lay ahead, Andrew and his wife, Norine, believed this was God's plan for them.

What followed was a string of threats and attacks, but also successes in starting new churches in a place where many people had never met a Christian. As their work with refugees from Syria, including Kurds, gained attention and suspicion, Andrew and Norine acknowledged the threat but accepted the risk, determining to stay unless God told them to leave.

In 2016, they were arrested. Though the State eventually released Norine, who remained in Turkey, Andrew was imprisoned. Accused of being a spy and being among the plotters of the attempted coup, he became a political pawn whose story soon became known around the world.

God's Hostage is the incredible true story of his imprisonment, his brokenness, and his eventual freedom. Anyone with a heart for missions, especially to the Muslim world, will love this tension-laden and faith-laced book.

Remember Praying for Him

This is a wonderful narration by Andrew Brunson himself. I remember praying for him. This is Roman’s 8:28 happening for us to see. “All things work together for the good of those who love Him and have been called according toHis purposes.”

Shocking….

It is shocking to see how God works. The story of this family is not necessarily a new one per missionaries—the outcome, as always, was in the hands of the Lord.

I love the honesty of the battles that our brother had. The ability to share his lack of faith and then understanding that his joy comes from the strength of the Lord. Great book!

extremely real

Author admitted vulnerability and weaknesses, but he saw God's hand through it all. He had honest struggles and doubts, but God used him in a great way

Amazing, Raw and Honest Testimony--Recommended!

Brunson does an excellent job narrating his story--kept me hooked on listening--it was hard to put down!
He was so honest about how frightening his experience was, how he struggled with severe anxiety, depression, and even questioning why the Lord was allowing him to undergo all this--which is absolutely understandable!
What a wonderful modern day "Job" account--in how all was taken from him in an instant--his home, ability to be with and see his family, his health, and most of all his freedom. But as in the story of Job, the Lord weaves a beautiful work of redemption, restoration, and blessings into his life in that he is prayed for by many people worldwide, and his case came to the attention of a wise and compassionate president who intervened for him, and he didn't give up until Brunson was set free!!
My favorite part was how Brunson went from being in a Turkish courtroom facing a possible life sentence, to being quickly sent back to the US, and then praying over the US president in the Oval Office--all within 48 hours! Only God can do things like this!!
This story brings me hope that no matter what we are facing, if we have the Lord, He will bring us through--just like He did with Andrew Brunson!

Outstanding

This book detailed one man’s journey in faith.
The best part of this book is the transparency of his life. He does not fail to share his real struggles. It is not about his faithlessness - it is about the real struggle a Christian can face. And that is what makes it such a good book to read if you want to know if God is real. Because the Christian God says believe in my Son and I will never let anyone take you out of My hand. This is that story. Of a big God who sees one real man who belongs to Him ...because of Jesus.

Powerful

This book was so honest and moving. I loved listening to Pastor Brunson read his own words with all the emotion he felt in those days of imprisonment.

The Why in Suffering

Really enjoyed the narration and the poignant story of a missionary pastor wrongly accused and caught up in a political drama within Turkey.
