About this listen

Ghosts, a family curse, and a legacy of true magic
2018 Readers' Choice Award Winner for YA Paranormal Fiction

For 16-year old Abigail Renshaw, the terrifying nightmares are not the worst part. When apparitions start leaking out of the nightmares into her waking life - well, that's a problem.

But Abby's dealt with hallucinations before, and she's nothing if not resilient. Following clues from the nightmares, she convinces her mother to let her visit Harmony Springs, the small town in Florida where Abby was born, and where her grandmother still lives.

There, Abby finds unexpected help from new friends: a compulsive teenage blogger named Molly Quick, and Molly's older brother Ray-Ray (a guy Abby really starts to like).

The not-so-good news? Abby's apparitions might be real, the results of a family curse. And one of them wants to kill her.

For young adult fantasy fans of Bella Forest and Bianca Scardoni: If you like heroines who handle their own problems - no matter how spooky - you will love Ghosts of Bliss Bayou.

Great YA paranormal mystery

This was my first Jack Massa's book. Ghosts of Bliss Bayou is the first book in The Abby Renshaw Supernatural Mysteries Series, a great YA paranormal mystery. Abigail is a strong and determined young character. The supporting characters are great, and they have an important part in this story. I loved her grandmother and mother, and her friends Molly and Ray-Ray. The storyline is complex, well detailled, intriguing, and filled with magic, mystery, and action. The mystery unfold at a great pace. Alicia Foreman is a new narrator to me. She did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to Ghosts of Tamgrove Hall, a sequel to Abby Renshaw's first adventure.

Good Book

Very good book. Plot slow and creepy voice from the villain, but all in all a good story! The performance of the reader was good!

Fast paced Paranormal read

This paranormal book is a very interesting read.It follows Abigail and how her nightmares and waking life are quite disturbing to her. As she learns to use her gift. This story has some very good details within it and goes as at a good pace. It goes at a fast-ish pace, but you can still get to know what is going on, which I enjoyed. I don't mind a fast pace book long as I know what is going on.

Narrator reads in a nice voice and helps give voice to each character. She does seem to read a bit fast in certain areas which makes it harder to follow those sections in the book.

All in all it was a good book to read, just a bit rushed for those who don't enjoy it. Though I would say to give it a chance anyways cause it still gives lots of info.

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving am honest review

Good Versus Evil

This was my first experience with Jack Massa's work and I found it very entertaining. In this series, the young protagonist's name is Abigail Renshaw and she goes by the name Abby. Abby has been haunted by hallucinations for most of her young life. At one time, Abby was under the care of a doctor who helped her to deal with her unusual visions. When she turns sixteen, the hallucinations are once again taking over her life and Abby seeks answers in her past to find out why she has the visions. Alicia Foreman's narration is great providing another layer of enjoyment to the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

captivating

This makes for a terrific ghost story in the traditional style. A little bit of mystery, suspense, and a haunted past that effects the present. It also has a great deal of relatable undertones, like finding your way to determine your purpose and being brave enough to go after your dreams

This is not your typical ghost stories

Ghost of Bliss Bayou is not your typical ghost story it is much more detailed. The book has it all apparitions, magic, past revelations and a quirky heroine. I was so intrigued by the story that I could not turn it off. The storyline is strong and flows perfectly.

I hope Book 2 is as good as the first!

I offered to review this audiobook because I am such an an avid reader but also almost exclusively audio due to my schedule. Because of this, and the fact that a bad narrator can destroy a great series, I can be very critical of narrators. Especially when books have a single narrator required to speak with different voices for multiple characters. Most cannot do it without having some errors where they use the wrong 'voice' for the wrong character. Alicia Foreman does a great job in narrating this book! It was a very enjoyable listen and I didn't have any issues distinguishing between characters.

As to the story, I am not one to give a lot of specific story details since I feel you should read the story for that, and Ghosts of Bliss Bayou will not disappoint! While this book can stand alone and doesn't end with a cliffhanger, I am very excited to know that I can continue the series to see what happens next in this seemingly sleepy town, which isn't really so sleepy after all. This is book 1 in a paranormal mystery series and I for one am hooked. The book includes interesting characters, lots of twists and turns in the main story, and several good underlying stories within that will make you want to keep listening until the story is over.
