George's mother panicked when she heard the thunder of horses and the whooping of men. Bushwhackers! She pulled her baby close to her chest and stood rooted to the dirt floor in fear. A man stumbled through her doorway. "We got us one, boys!" he yelled, waving his rifle in the air and dragging his captives into the cold night.

Once a kidnapped slave baby, George Washington Carver found freedom in learning everything he could about the world around him. Overcoming poverty and racism, George became a brilliant scientist and a gifted professor who dedicated his expertise to helping black farmers escape the devastating grip of poverty.

George's scientific creativity knew no limits. His ingenious experimentation with peanuts and other plants helped rescue the failing Southern economy. Still remembered for his far-reaching and diverse achievements, Dr. Carver generously shared his talent simply for the reward of helping others.

Like everyone I knew about George Washington Carver. What I didn’t know was what an interesting and eclectic person he was. I certainly didn’t know how kind he was and how generous he was with his time. Small wonder that he was so popular. It would’ve been an honor to know him. This was an extremely well told story about a wonderful human being!

Because of listening to this book, I am inspired to do my best to emulate the good qualities that George Washington Carver displayed during his lifetime.

This is one of the best books I have read! He clearly showed how you can overcome all obstacles in life. He got an education way beyond what most black folks would think possible, used all his talents to the fullest, was frugal with every dime he ever got, and never adopted the idea that anyone owed him anything for nothing. I believe every high school sophomore should be required to read this book.

This book helps the reader become familiar with the depth of George Washington Carver‘s character.

There is very little emphasis on his Christian walk. However, his actions and attitude toward others convey a level of humility and selflessness that speaks volumes.
