About this listen

George Rogers Clark was a famous general in the Revolutionary War, and his explorations served as the inspiration for his younger brother William, the leader of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition. Now you can read about the boyhood of Roger and share in the first adventures of this lifelong hero.

Praised by parents, teachers, and historians, the Young Patriots Series is an ideal way to sweep today's young readers into history. The everyday details of family life, the time period in which they lived, what they wore, and the challenges they faced in school create a window through which children can access history. The early evidence of character, responsibility, ability and courage are showcased in common situations to which every child can relate.

great history about a fairly little known founder

We very much enjoyed learning about a courageous general and settler of early America. Well written.

History comes alive

Would you consider the audio edition of George Rogers Clark to be better than the print version?

This was the first book my 10 year old son read on his Kindle Fire HD with the Immersion Reading format. He is a struggling reader, so the Immersion Reading feature is what convinced us to buy the Kindle Fire HD. I was especially interested to see if he would actually track along with the highlighting on the ebook as he listened. He did! This feature allowed him to hear the words as he read the words himself. A great way to strengthen his reading skills.

He even caught a couple typos in the ebook and a couple mismatches between the audio and ebook copy. Sure we'd all like our ebooks and audiobooks to be perfect, but in this case, I was glad my son was paying such close attention.

What did you like best about this story?

My son was studying this era of American History in Social Studies and I thought this biography would help him relate better to his school lessons. He really enjoyed the story. George Rogers Clark had several exciting adventures as a young man that make for a very good story. These personal stories are the kind that children can relate to and they make history come alive.

Which scene was your favorite?

George retrieved some stolen money by escaping through a tunnel. You could see how his bravery might make him a leader in battle in his future.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Actually, the book had some satisfying chapter breaks. You might want to read it all in one sitting, but the end of the chapters were good places to pause if you needed to stop. But we were eager to pick it up again as soon as we could.
