Fun stories that teach while you listen

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

General Silverspot was a delightful listen for parents with young children who are interested in the behavior of birds. The stories were short, fun and sweet while teaching without sounding like a lecture.

Additional resources are made available to the listener for those that want to learn more.

The narrator had a very pleasant voice and I would have had no problem listening to a much longer text with even more stories about this bird.

More educational than a bedtime story

This book wasn't something I enjoyed but my grandson found this very interesting and would love more books like this. He's 7 and I thought this was perfect for him. He agreed! I would recommend this to mothers and grandmothers who have children old enough to understand and would appreciate learning about crows.

Perfect for classrooms.

This book is a great way for children to learn respect for wildlife and the personality traits of a crow.
General silverspot is a very important crow to his flock, which I learned is called a murder. It's his job to give commands and keep his family of crows safe. Most kids don't think about how intelligent birds really are, but this book will change that. This book and the narration definitely deserve 5 stars.

General Silverspot

A perfect listen for younger listeners. Great information about crows that is presented as a tale about a the leader of a murder, General Silverspot. It’s educational but presented in a fun way.

The author did a lovely job narrating as well.

All Hail, General Silverspot!

This is an excellent look into the private lives of crows. The book relates many facts about these fascinating animals from their ability to distinguish objects in the hands of hunters to how the murder (a flock) reacts to a dreaded owl suddenly appearing in their territory. Between these general facts about the species, Annie Lena Day weaves various anecdotes about a specific crow: one General Silverspot, a legendary crow noted for the silver spot on its head. These stories are loosely adapted from the writings/memoirs of Ernest Thompson Seton (wild animals I have known) and they give an individual face to all the interesting facts about these animals. This was my favorite part because it enabled me to really imagine a specific bird, General Silverspot, doing all the things that Annie Lena Day describes. This will really help kids to put their knowledge into context and personalize their experience of nature. Once you listen to this book, by yourself or with a young one, you’ll be ready to head out into nature or just your local park and appreciate the wonder and magic of our feathered friends.

it took me a while

it took me a while to write this review.... because first of all I chose to listen to those stories by my own..... and later ,I decided that I will use those stories with a group of children that are learning English with me... and I will say it was a very very productive week.... w the kids they enjoyed the stories so much... and I love the fact but I could enter those stories to my system for Israeli children.... it was a great experience .....I will definitely use it with my other small group....
if you are a parent I would suggest this bundle for your kids the stories are very educational and very interesting

Learn about crows

Calling this a "story" is a bit generous. It's low on entertainment; high on education about crows. That said, crows are a much more interesting bird than I'd expected.

Biography of a great bird!

Very interesting telling of one man’s observations of an intriguing crow from many years ago. This is a wonderful educational tool for the young biologist’s toolkit. Well done Annie! Narration was as excellent as the writing!

Learn About Crows

This is a collection of short stories about crows. This is a fun way for children to learn about crows in an entertaining way. Annie Lena Day delivers educational information in a way a child would find interesting. She doesn't lecture but manages to incorporate facts with a bit of fiction to help the children want to hear about the topic. Her narration is well done as well. She has a pleasant voice and reads at a nice pace, easy to keep up with.

Interesting

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this author (she narrates her book) and I would listen to another. Her narration is good for this content.
This book is about the historical accounts of a real crow and the things some observers learned about crows while watching this guy. Yes, a young boy is mentioned, but the entire story is not seen through his eyes. The author has written this as an informative book, not a wholly fiction story. It would be a great story for kids and maybe inspire them to get out and observe nature.
