Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Fast, Furious & Fun
I've really found this series to be a lively & interesting take on a futuristic mostly dead earth, with humanity spread out to the Moon & Mars. Set in the world of mega corporations thst are almost or just as powerful than the government, with super soldiers born from mysterious tech developments, lots of political intrigue & plenty of action, I found this series keeps expanding.
Just when you think you have it pegged. the game is changed & new players are introduced, taking everything to a new level with more complexities, like with the addition of a hidden Alien race planning a conquering invasion to enslave humanity.
As the MC meets up with more members of the Corporate group that the he came from, the world is expanded further as it's revealed that each member of the pack's abilities are different, leading to more questions as to the nature of the experiment that produced these super soldiers, which takes the. ook in another direction you weren't expecting & leaves you guessing what's coming next.
Without giving things away, more players from parts hitherto unknown are added in towards the end, once again changing the parameters of the world the story exists in, raising more questions rather than answering others raised earlier.
There's, as with a lot of Sci Fi these days, some discrepancies in the logic of the tech&/or capabilities of the MC. Like WHY would the Immortal Corp give their only(?) experimental AI implant to a Former team member who's been AWOL
for 4 yrs & not to any of his pack mates, who stayed loyal to the Corp & are actively running field missions for them? Seriously? In what world does this happen? Every time he runs into another pack mate & they ask him how the AI's working out & commenting on how helpful that's must be, it's like a bucket of cold water, stopping me in my tracks & I have to work really hard to get myself to suspend disbelief.
Some of the tech just shows up out of the blue, when it's needed for the story line. Like the abrupt insertion of the hitherto unknown cloaking capabilities of the Immortal Corp, that apparently only works on robots carrying your gear, but not on the actual soldier, his wheels, or dropship, which, ooops!, (Sorry), shows up in this book. Oh, and shows up right after Preacher tells him the aliens are so much more advanced than humans, point in case being the Aliens have cloaking capabilities!!! Just sayin'....
Also, some characters did seem to get unexpectedly dropped in this book. The Scientist's daughter, for example. At the end of the last book, when he'd rescued her father, he took off on a new quest instead of returning with her as originally planned. I thought he'd said he'd get in touch with her upon his return, yet this never happens anywhere in this book. I don't believe she's even mentioned or thought of, nor is the group she's with, (which is another faction on Earth).
This leads me to wonder if this world might be spinning a little out of the author's control because of so many new additions, all the balls are no longer being juggled so deftly in the air?
Regardless, I still have been enjoying this series. I mean, what's not to love about a futuristic guy who takes a licking & keeps on ticking?
Then as this book ends, as has happened in all the previous books, more players are introduced into the galactic stage & you're set up with what his next mission or quest is. So, I've just finished this (#3) & am all excited to move onto #4 only to discover it doesn't have the add on feature & I'm expected to pay a full credit (or $13.95) for a 5 hour book!
I think the prequel story ".5" was included in my membership purchased the 1st 3 books via the Audible Add On if you have the Kindle version, so it was only 1.99, as were the others in the series I bought.
A lot of times Authors/Audible will skip a book or 2 in a series from the Add On option & I reluctantly shell out the credit for an 8 or 9 hour book, because I don't want to miss any part of the story. (I prefer to not use a credit on a book under 12 hrs min - preferably over 18, 30 is ideal, to feel like I've gotten my money's worth.)
What I hate is when Authors put out a series with 5 hour books. To me, that's really a partial story. A 6 book series that's only 5 hrs each is really 2 15 hour books or at best, 3 10 hour books. For a 1.99 add on to the Kindle, I don't mind, but to use a full credit on a 5 hour book is just plain highway robbery IMO.
If you have Kindle Unlimited & a 1.99 to spare, this book is a spectacular value & a whole lot of kick butting fun. Just be forewarned if you, like me, start this series & really want to follow along with the action, be prepared for a reality check when the next book costs a credit, as does the last book in the series. I'm still trying to decide if I can find the time to read the next installment or if I just have to skip #5 & go to #6 on audio.
Decisions, decisions....

This Is a Great Series
I love the plot twists and fast paced nature of the series. It definitely is written as a serial with cliff hanger endings for each book. I sense this is a marketing tactic as each book is relatively short. But the author has me hooked and I'm looking for the next installment with pleasure.
