Great series, horrible reader

If I was not already invested in the story, I would not have been able to listen to this book. Did not enjoy the performance at all.
That said, it is a great series and I hope they continue to produce audio versions, just with a different narrator

Obsessed with the new worlds surprise

About to grab the next book. I love the characters in this series and truthfully my only complaint is because I hate when narrators change mid series. I’m not a fan of his female vocal interpretations. I found them a bit too similar and high pitched, like the teasing male sounding a female vs trying to actually mimic one.

Maybe I wouldn’t have minded as much had it been this narrator throughout.

Wonderful continuation of the story.

I really enjoy this story and the development it's taken! I especially liked the narration on this one, and thought that Brad Wills did an excellent job of portraying the different characters. This book was another great adventure, and included a lot of magical elements that I've really enjoyed. So far, this has been my favorite book in the series. The author also did an excellent job of writing both evil and kind characters and showing their strengths and weaknesses. *I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

enthralling

It was almost impossible to put down. However I hated the narration. In fact I disliked the voices and rapid narration so much I bought the kindle version. I am very disappointed that this narrator is also in the following titles. The previous narrator was very good.

Excellent Story and Narrator! Give it a Try!

I have listened to the first nine books in this series, and I have really enjoyed it so far! If you looking for a fairly clean, but well written sword/sorcery series (with a Christian world view) I would recommend this series. Starting in book five there is some sex (not explicit - just mentioned). The narrator does change starting book six, but I think the new narrator does a great job!

As a Christian I really enjoy several aspects of this book series:

First, this book series takes place in a world where most people seem to believe in Christianity (specifically it seems to be similar to Catholicism). This is a refreshing (and less common) thing to read in modern culture. For example, one of the main characters in the party is a priest, and he talks about how things relate to faith quite a bit. The other characters discuss their faith as well. When a character starts having sex out of marriage in the fifth book it is acknowledged to be wrong, and even discussed by the other characters to some extent.

Second, its refreshing to have such real characters with real problems. The main character Ridmark is possibly the greatest warrior of the age which leads to some great fight scenes. However, while he is a great fighter, he is also a fairly emotionally broken (not in a whiny way though) person due to a tragedy from his past. In spite of being exiled from the kingdom he has spent the last five years saving and protecting people as the Gray Knight. Calliande is one of the other main characters, and is an incredibly strong woman with amazing character, but has her own problems and baggage as well. What I enjoy about this is seeing amazing people who are broken (emotionally/mentally) in certain ways, but they still do their best (even though they aren't perfect) to save the kingdom in spite of their problems.

Third, I just really enjoy the story!

Fourth, the narrators both do an excellent job! (Steven Crossley for the first five books, and then Brad Wills started narrating from book six onwards). Note: Some of the reviews were a little negative towards Brad Wills taking over, but a little ways into the first book he narrated I came to really enjoy it. Personally, I think like in most things, people don't like change. I would highly recommend you give Brad Wills a chance, and listen to the entire sixth book before making any decisions. I really enjoyed his narration!

Great book ruined by awful awful narrator

I love the Frostborn series, and I've read the entire thing. I'm now listening to it while I work on tedious tasks. The first five audiobooks were wonderful. Then suddenly Book 6, The Dark Warden, has a new narrator and he is simply terrible. He speaks so incredibly fast it's sort of hilarious because the characters sound like they've been speeded up, like when you watch a video on 1.5x or even 2x speed. It's funny at first but soon becomes annoying, distracting, and close to un-listenable. This narrator honestly sounds like that guy who used to do the Micro Machines commercials. The words are so fast you almost can't understand. And I don't understand how anyone could listen to this performance and think it's acceptable to go ahead and sell.
