Frank Rich joined the New York Times in 1980 as its chief drama critic. He has been an op-ed columnist since 1994. He is the author of Ghost Light: A Memoir, Hot Seat: Theater Criticism for the New York Times, and The Greatest Story Ever Sold: Bush's America.
Barbara Walters was the first woman to anchor a nightly network news broadcast, when she co-anchored ABC Evening News with Harry Reasoner in 1976. Since then, she has interviewed more statesmen and stars than any other journalist in history, including every American president and first lady since Richard Nixon. She was also the first female co-anchor of the Today show and co-host and chief correspondent of ABC's 20/20 for 25 years. Walters is currently the co-executive producer and co-host of the Emmy Award-winning daytime talk show The View.

During the Bush administration, Rich emerged in the pages of The New York Times as one of George Bush’s most forceful critics. This conversation, recorded in 2006, will take the listener back to the dog days of the Bush era, when the devastation of Hurricane Katrina was fresh and the longest war in American history (the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan) was in its third year. Thoughtful, probing commentary by Frank Rich on the disastrous missteps of the George W. Bush administration, rendered even more compelling with the benefit of hindsight.
The material is, of course, dated, but it is also sharply relevant, given the chaos that has erupted in the Middle East as a result of Bush's ill-considered decision to wade into that quagmire.
