About this listen

Single mother Amy Parkens feels trapped by a boring job, low pay, and no time for her young daughter. But that's before $200,000 in cold, hard cash arrives in an unmarked box. Desperately needing the money, Amy fears a setup, or a connection to her mother's suicide twenty years earlier. So she sets out to find the source.

A decent, responsible small-town doctor, Ryan Duffy didn't expect to inherit a fortune from his electrician father, who had millions stashed away in the attic. Did it come from extortion, robbery, or some other terrible crime? Painful as it is, Ryan is drawn to his father's dark past, determined to find the truth.

Desperate for answers, Amy and Ryan soon cross paths on a dangerous quest that takes them through a labyrinth of deception and blackmail— leading them to a man of unfathomable power who holds the key to their fortunes . . . and their lives.

Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave...

Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave... When We First Practice to Deceive...

This story explores the intricate web of cause and effect of unexpected "found" money. As moral and ethical questions of who and why are explored, this story takes many unexpected twists and turns as desperate answers are sought. As the story develops, several surprising yet supporting back stories are exposed and detailed.

As the publisher's summary synopsis states, $200,000 in cold, hard cash lands in Amy's lap unexpectedly at a time when she desperately needs it. But Amy is concerned about ethical issues related to the money... Is it some kind of setup? Should she keep the money? Ryan is in a similar boat because he and his sister inherited millions of dollars from their deceased-middle-class father. Where did it come from? ... extortion, robbery, or some other terrible crime he had committed? Ryan's remembrance of his father becomes tangled. Did his father have a dark past which nobody in the family knew anything about? Did he deceive his entire family?

Narrator George Guidall is a masterful narrator.

A real page turner

This book took twists and turns that I did not expect. Well written, loved his descriptions, and wished the book had not ended. Tightly written, it did not waste the readers time in rehashing details. I am going to listen to his other books, I read so much, it is nice to find a new writer that I like. Bravo - will recommend this book to my book clubs.

tangled web

The book takes a common premise--the abrupt, inexplicable appearance of too much money-and explores the intricate web of cause and effect leading to its arrival. Along the way several overlapping stories get fleshed out in interesting ways. The book relies a bit on the television meme where the audience knows information a character does not, which is an effective way to get the reader engaged with and frustrated by a character's actions . . . nonetheless, a few characters in this book seem to overreact and fail to listen in unrealistic or over-the-top ways that are good for prolonging the narrative tension but bad for verisimilitude.

Captivating but no likable characters.

I found the book interesting but due to it's continuous nagging sensation that I just did not like any character and because of this there was no strong affinity for the book. I kept forcing myself to keep listening because of the plot but got no enjoyment from reading the book due to not feeling a bond with any of the people in the book. I would not buy the book a second time if given the opportunity. I got no satisfaction from reading the book.

Good - But could be Better !!!

Would you try another book from James Grippando and Mim E. Rivas and/or George Guidall?

Definitely with George Guidell... wish he read the entire series !!! I would buy them all.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I find the courtroom really adverse to the plaintiff. The judge always ruling against the underdog to the point of sheer irritation. Like " get on with it" where is the law? this part of the writing I DO NOT enjoy at all, however, the plot and movement of the storyline are very compelling.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Character, resonance and a depth of personality

Do you think Found Money needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. It is fine as it is. Thank you

Expect a gripping tale from Grippando

If you could sum up Found Money in three words, what would they be?

Interesting, well-written, twisty

Would you be willing to try another book from James Grippando and Mim E. Rivas ? Why or why not?

I might be willing to read another book from Mr. Grippando. I would have to be in the right mood though.

Would you listen to another book narrated by George Guidall?

Mmmm, probably. He wasn't the worst narrator I have ever listened to. Wasn't the best.....he was ok.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Near the end, when the reason for all the trouble the heroine experiences/experienced is explained, it was very twisty.

Don't bother

The writer filled an obligation. The reader was not included. Audible would not allow me to exchange or I would not even be writing this.
