About this listen

Lex

Even if I wasn’t losing my sight, I never would have seen him coming.

I’ve known my fate for years, but I wasn’t willing to accept it. But as the light in my eyes dims a little more each day, I have no choice but to adapt. Or not.

The secluded cabin in the north woods of Maine is supposed to be an escape. A place where I can figure out how to move forward with my life and to find out if I even can.

But then, he shows up, and suddenly, I’m facing a new fight.

Gideon

He wants to be left alone? Fine by me. But I’m not going to watch him just give up.

Wanting to be left alone - that’s something the guy and I have in common. But that’s about it. As far as I’m concerned, he’s just another rich city boy playing at living off the grid for a while. He’s got no idea what it really means to be alone.

My job is to take care of the cabin he’s staying in, and that’s it. It doesn’t matter that I can’t stop thinking about why he looks so damn broken or wondering why he stirs something inside of me I thought long dead.

But try as I might, I can’t stay away from him, just like I can’t watch him give up on himself. He may be losing his sight, but I won’t let him lose himself.

I won’t let him become like me...

I very much enjoyed this book and thought it was even better than the first in the series. I hope the author puts the other 2 on Audible. Highly recommend!

Better Than the First in the Series

Out of all The Four Brothers- I wished there was more to Lex’s story. All throughout the rest of the novels he’s rarely mentioned again.
Maybe it’s because his story doesn’t come with overcoming abuse as with many others or something else.
Maybe sometime in a future book the author will see fit to bring him back up at some point. HINT!

Narrator Michael Dean gives a sensationally entertaining performance. When this narrator says “chapter one” my knees go weak and he has all my attention. The deep purr of his voice infuse each moment with pure listening bliss. It’s truly something of beauty. Especially, when I haven’t listened to him in a while, I come back to appreciate the experience so much more.

This second book in the spin-off series is incredible. I laughed, cry and empathized with the characters, making this one a beautiful and inspiring audiobook. I’m a little nervous about the insulin overdose. Insulin overdose whether it’s accidental or intentional, can be an extremely dangerous situation. If someone is having severe symptoms, action should be taken right away. Call 911 and administer glucagon if you have it available, a glass of orange juice and bedrest will not fix that. Anyway, we are not sure how much he injected. So, I’m just giving my two cents here.

Lots, of other dramatic stuff happens, which will keep listeners on the edge off their seats.

I do recommend this audiobook. It will not disappoint.

This book makes at you look at your own life with gratitude. The things that Lex are going through are so life changing I can’t imagine. What Gideon has gone through is also unimaginable! The storyline is dealt with caring and grace and the characters’s personalities are stellar!

Fantastic read!

I loved Lex’s and Gideon’s stories. Lex seemed to me to be the forgotten brother in the Protector series, but after listening to his story he became a beloved character for me. Plus to now know how much he is loved and the lengths his brothers have gone for him is beautiful.
Gideon I found to be really hot with finding his new sexual attraction to men. His character was very real to me.

Loved!

Lex and Gideon each had their own difficult journeys, but watching the two of them, learn to trust each other and begin to heal some of those old wounds, was beautiful.

Sightless but Not Blind

The premise of this book has different aspects than most, and seemed to promise a much richer read than normal romances. Some of it was delivered. What bothered me most - and went on throughout most of the book - was the way things would be going very well, then Lex would jump to an incorrect conclusion and fly off the handle, leave Gideon, without giving him one chance to explain. It happened continuously through 80-90% of the book. There were good parts to it during this, but break-ups over misunderstandings is a pet peeve of mine and there were lots of them in this. I will say that when Lex finally “gets it”, it is really done quite wonderfully, and is my favorite part of the story.

The other drawback is that, after going through hours of hearing the conflicts happening, getting resolved, then happening again, after they are in the HEA phase, there are a few family situations that arise, and they are resolved impossibly easily. Life doesn’t work that way. I wish she would have resolved Gideon and Lex maybe 70% through the book, and spent the rest of the time resolving the outside issues. Those were very interesting and lots of potential.

This being said, I would absolutely love to read further books about Lex’s brothers. Their stories show great promise, and they are all super appealing on several levels.

A mixed bag...
