About this listen
The Korean War destroyed their plans, but the battle at home may shatter their hearts....
Laura Beth Walters fell in love with Joe McCall when she was six years old. Now, she is counting the days until Joey graduates from college so they can marry and begin their life together. But the Korean War rips their neatly laid plans to shreds. Instead of a college fraternity, Joey joins a platoon. Laura Beth trades a traditional wedding for a quick trip to the courthouse.
The couple endures the hardship of separation, but the true battle is faced when Joey returns from the war. Their marriage is soon tested beyond endurance. Laura must find a way to accept the tragedy thrown in their path or lose the love that has kept them anchored for so long.
With a determination that only comes from the heart, Joe relentlessly fights an invisible enemy...for the love of Laura Beth.

Story
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Story
The year 1996 was the one that changed everything for Maggie Dawes. Sent away at 16 to live with an aunt she barely knew in Ocracoke, a remote village on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, she could think only of the friends and family she left behind...until she met Bryce Trickett, one of the few teenagers on the island. Handsome, genuine, and newly admitted to West Point, Bryce showed her how much there was to love about the wind-swept beach town - and introduced her to photography, a passion that would define the rest of her life. By 2019, Maggie is a renowned travel photographer.

I’d never forgotten him - a man I’d yet to meet. Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break. Until one day, it did. Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing. Griffin forgave me, and we were able to rekindle our childhood connection.

Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

A whimsical, moving novel about a retirement home for literary legends who spar, conjure up new stories, and almost magically change the lives of the people around them. Alfonse Carducci was a literary giant who lived his life to excess - lovers, alcohol, parties, and literary rivalries. But now he's come to the Bar Harbor Home for the Elderly to spend the remainder of his days among kindred spirits: the publishing industry's nearly gone but never forgotten greats. Only now, at the end of his life, does he comprehend the price of appeasing every desire.

Growing up, Ramsey Stewart branded my soul in ways time could never heal. At 12, he asked me to be his girlfriend. At 13, he gave me my first kiss. By 16, we’d fallen in love, planned a future together, and had our eyes set on the horizon. Love never fails, right? But for Ramsey, it did. I failed him. The entire world failed him. At 17, Ramsey was convicted of killing the boy who assaulted me. "Move on", he wrote in his first and only letter from prison. There was no such thing as giving up on Ramsey. Love may have been our curse, but he was mine - then, now, and forever.

Love struck me at the early age of five. The boy turned into a man, and I fell even deeper. Guy Webb had no idea my fragile heart belonged to him for so many years. He was too busy being my brother’s best friend and a star on the football field. He was my daydream and consumed every single thought, but he was always one step from my reach. Beartooth Ranch was our home. The rich ranch land raised us, fostered our laughs and losses, and even gained a new family member when Guy moved in for his sophomore year of high school.

A Great Audio Book
I loved "For The Love Of Laura Beth" as it is a beautifully written historical, based on real people real places, fears of polio and cancer. It was an emotional read about real life, real fears and surviving the Korean War. Laura Beth Walters and Joe [Joey] McCall were meant to be together. Laura Beth was courageous, strong and compassionate for the McCall men when Mrs. McCall get very sick. Joey McCall was an ambitious and hard working young man who was drafted during the Korean War. Joey has loved Laura for a long time. Laura gives Joey the best Christmas present when she married him on Christmas. Laura's dad was very upset that she did that. While Joey was serving in the Korean War Laura gave birth to a little girl. After Joey came home from the war they found out that their little girl was sick. Laura was pregnant with their second child. Laura and Joey's love was tested due to everything that was going on. Laura gave birth to a boy and they named him after his daddy. Aubrey Wynne did an awesome job with this Historical book. Thank you Aubrey Wynne for a very beautifully written story!! Thank you Sara K. Sheckells for the awesome job you did in narrating this book!!

Touching tale of a lifelong love
4 1/2 stars out of 5. Laura Beth and Joe made a wonderful couple. Began as friends meant to be life partners. Their lives had a lot of ups and downs, and the lows made me cry, the emotions were so well expressed. I recommend this story. As I listened to the audio version, I felt that Sara K Sheckells brought the characters to life and made the emotions more real for me.
I received a copy of this audio story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Heart Warming and Heart Wrenching
You need to have a strong heart to read this one. There is so much love and so much tragedy; there is so much happiness and so much sorrow. But that is what life is all about for most people. This book brought me to tears and made me smile. It is also an illustration of how faith and trust in the Lord is the only way to have the strength to deal with life. Be prepared for a wonderful journey.
The narration by Sara K. Sheckells was very good.

emotional journey
I started this book and very quickly fell in love with the characters. I found joy when the two childhood sweethearts Joey and Laura Beth got married. I held my breath when the chapters told of him being in Korea. My dad also got drafted while living in Chicago so the story became personal to me. I went back to joy when Laura Beth found out she was expecting. And heartbreak when they lost Lizzy. Felt sorrow for the loss and yet anger at Laura Beth for not appreciating the new life she was carrying. Compassion and joy for all that she managed to get through her depression. This is such a powerful story and will stay with me for a very long time.

Should be made in to a Hallmark Movie
Wonderful story of one young couple in love during the Korean War. The war was before my time but it still feels so authentic. Laura Beth and Joey became my favorite book couple as the story unfolded. Learning in the the authors note at the end that they are based on a true story of the authors own family made the story that much more touching. Love, loss, heartbreak and heartwarming. The narrator did a really good job bringing the story to life and their feeling to the surface.

Love, loss, determination and Korean War
This is the first Korean War story that I've listened to but it won't be the last. This is an emotionally gripping story about The Korean War, love, loss and determination to rebuild a couple's family and relationship because of several overwhelming obstacles. This story is a rollercoaster ride and shows how faith, determination, and love can overcome anything. This story is worth every cent you spend on it!!!
