"A perfect summer book." (NPR)

USA Today best-selling author Samantha Downing is back with her latest sneaky thriller set at a prestigious private school - complete with interfer....

Teddy Crutcher has won Teacher of the Year at the prestigious Belmont Academy, home to the best and brightest.

He says his wife couldn’t be more proud - though no one has seen her in a while.

Teddy really can’t be bothered with a few mysterious deaths on campus that’re looking more and more like murder or with the student digging a little too deep into Teddy’s personal life. His main focus is pushing these kids to their full academic potential.

All he wants is for his colleagues - and the endlessly meddlesome parents - to stay out of his way. If not, well, they’ll get what they deserve.

It’s really too bad that sometimes excellence can come at such a high cost.

Critic reviews

“Holy revenge, Batman! This is a delicious page-turner with so many layers of revenge, you won’t soon forget. I absolutely loved watching how this unfolded starting with a jerk teacher at a prep school who thinks it’s his job to punish others into being better.... I’m super excited about this one so mark your calendars for July 20th.” (BookRiot)

"I'm a huge fan of Samantha Downing, who is masterful at creating diabolical characters and deliciously chilling plots. An absolutely terrific book!" (Sarah Pekkanen, New York Times best-selling author of The Wife Between Us)

"Samantha Downing serves up another cast of deliciously mendacious characters in an exclusive private school setting, where the deadly action drives a brilliantly tense, taut and twisty plot. I may never look at my coffee in the same way again." (Gilly Macmillan, New York Times best-selling author of What She Knew)

Silly and distracting narration!

The premise and execution are trying to be clever but really fall short.

More importantly, the narrator cannot voice female characters with any authenticity. Every girl and woman sounds like Marge Simpson’s heavy smoker sisters. Unpleasant to listen to!!!

NOT Similar to You Series!

I purchased this book in large part because it was likened the Carolyn Kepnes series. Ummm....I didn't see any similarity at all! Overall let down, rambling story with poorly developed characters. Meh.....

A Great Listen

It is so nice to have smart characters fill a yarn. They think before they act - and they're still tripped up. Devious people being rotten often, as here, makes for an interesting listen (read). David Pittu's narration, per usual, is great.

A version of YOU

The book reminds me of the Netflix series, You, where the characters all seem like normal people, but could use a psych evaluation. They had too much time on their hands. It was almost seem stupid and funny, but I needed to see it through to the end. I didn’t care for the narration. The voice seem to be mocking the characters at times. I would read more of this author’s books.

Best Book of the Year!

So glad I took a chance on this book. I did not see any of the plot twist coming and the ending was totally a shock. It was the thriller I have been dreaming of all year.
