About this listen

The Bad Boy from the Trailer Park.
There are certain unwritten rules in the Lakeview Trailer Park, and number five is clear—No Gay Stuff.

Ethan “Shep” Shepherd has grown up hiding his true self so he doesn’t get kicked out of the only home he knows, but that doesn’t mean he can’t dream of a better life with the beautiful man who lives across the river. As a criminal, Ethan knows Jonas is too good for him, but when another one of the trailer park guys decides to attack Jonas, Ethan steps in and changes the course of their lives.

The Good Boy from the Religious Family
Jonas Nomikos is trying to survive his parents and their conservative views until he gets to college, where he can finally be himself. It isn’t an easy task to pretend to be the son they want, and when his best friend tells the truth to Jonas's parents, he’s sure his life is over. Until Ethan. Ethan gives him hope and makes him smile, and Jonas wants to be with him, even if it means saying goodbye to the only life he knows.

The Road to Being Who They Are
If Ethan and Jonas want to be together, they’ll need to make sacrifices. The journey to happiness is filled with surprises, and Ethan isn’t sure Jonas is ready to accept the reality of his life—which includes motorcycle clubs, breaking the law, and living payday to payday. Jonas might shock him, though.

Fool's Gold has a theme of overcoming prejudice and contains depictions of homophobia and discrimination, including scenes in a conversion camp. The authors do not condone homophobic behavior or discrimination of any kind.

Love Changes Everything!

This was even Better on Audio!! Keval has all the perfect voices and accents to bring alive the vast array of characters. I especially liked his Ethan. He nailed how Ethan was rough around the edges and he brought out the tough resilient yet innocent side of Jonas. Ethan the trailer park boy and Jonas the son of a religious family would seem to of course be a very unlikely pairing. So many things about their situations and personalities are the extreme of different. But deep down both of them are struggling with finding themselves and changing the course of their lives. I felt that both extremes of each of their particular situations was toxic just in very different ways. This is part of what drew them to each other. The romance is actually comforting and young guy romantic, but later in the book it gets steamy. Loved how they saved each other and all of their sweet times alone together. As always, our men from The Kings are woven in and play a big part in this story as this is still a love story based in the dark and violent side of New Gothenburg.

Ok for me

The narration was great but the story was a bit so-so to me. Not that it was bad, I just thought it was a bit slow and nothing so great I'll remember it after my next listen. I did really like both of the MCs and most of the side characters.

Loved this opposites attract story

I am a sucker for burn-down-the-world, touch-him-and-die, grumpy/sunshine storylines. Throw in a sexual awakening, found family and biker gang; and you have just created Fool's Gold!

Jonas and Ethan's story is a classic opposites, from different classes attracts story.

These two would never have met if it wasn't for the crush (stalking adjacent) that Ethan has for the year younger than him, Jonas. A chance encounter brings them together and Ethan is powerless to stop his attraction towards Jonas and when Jonas needs Ethan to rescue him, Ethan will burn the world down to save him.

The narration of Keval Shah brought an extra dimension to story and kept me hooked. He brought Ethan's passion and fury to life, while also allowing Jonas' innocence to shine through.

Loved it

I loved this book. Keval Shah's voice really brings this story to life. Ethan Shepherd is a criminal doing his best to keep a roof over his head and stay out of trouble. He lives at the Lakeview Trailer Park and has five unbreakable rules one that forces him to hide who he truly is. He dreams of being with the man across the river and getting out of the trailer park. When the man get attacked by a guy from the trailer park Ethan intervenes and that changes everything. Jonas Nomikos comes from a very religious family. After his friend outs him Jonas runs to the only place he can think of. Will Ethan and Jonas beat the odds stacked against them and fight for the love they have for each other?

Fool's Gold

A good story about two young men from different sides of the tracks. Their lives may be totally opposite one another but fate brings them together and love keeps them together. Ethan and Jonas must find a way to fight or they will lose the one good thing that they have found in life. I enjoyed seeing these two boys grow and find their way. They have to grow up quickly and decide if they are willing to take a leap into the unknown and follow their hearts. It was nice to see Jonas and Ethan make new friends along the way and I am eager to see the men that they become. I also love how the authors connect the New Gothenburg world and its characters in all of their books. Narrator Keval Shah does a good job of pulling the listener into this world and bringing the characters emotions out.

Wrong has never been so right!

I love a story where the bad boy isn't converted to the high life, but instead the good boy to bad. Wicked wishes, sweet longing, and delicious heat wrap these guys up into a unique adventure that leads them into happily ever after just right for them.

Ethan and Jonas

Fool’s Gold” is a great way to return to New Gothenburg. I loved watching Ethan and Jonas develop this deep relationship between them. It was also interesting to see how these two became involved with the Kings of Men motorcycle club. Ethan fit right in and I was a little concerned about Jonas, but he definitely surprised me. His love for Ethan was obvious and even though some behaviors pushed at his ingrained morality he still always chose Ethan. I adore the Kings of Men and seeing them in the background was just enough to remind me of how much I care for them. Kevel Shah did a tremendous job narrating. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. Highly recommend

Opposites attract

Being from two different walks of life, Ethan and Jonas had one thing in common, they were both hiding their true selves and living life to get by.
When they cross paths, the spark between them ignites and soon both of their lives irrevocably changes.

A story that has appearances from the Kings who come to the aid of the main characters, this is a plot that is muti layered and touches on many darker themes as Ethan and Jonas fight for their happiness.

Mr Shah does a fantastic job in bringing these characters to life and his tone through the emotional scenes was superb.

so much better on audio!!!

I cried so many times while I listened to the injustices and abuses against lgbtq men , especially from the radical religious zealots. I did have a happy heart when retribution came their way. I loved the Kings and their interventions and support. Some new prospects to look forward to reading on the Kings series. Can't wait for more. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest opinion. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.
