About this listen
Boston Police inspector and undercover international spy F. X. Flynn is back in this third rollicking installment of the Flynn series.
Finding himself in a complicated and sensitive dilemma, Police Commissioner Eddy D'Esopo summons Inspector Flynn to an extravagant country house hidden deep in the woods, cleverly disguised as a hunting and fishing lodge and aptly named the Rod and Gun Club. Unfortunately, Flynn hasn't been called up for a weekend of leisure, he's there to solve the mystery surrounding the death of a young and promising congressman.
Filled with America's eccentric, uber-rich, and powerful elites, all fiercely dedicated to the club's secrecy, Flynn is quick to discover that this is no ordinary hunting man's getaway, and just as he begins to uncover conflicting evidence, another member is found brutally murdered.

Story
The acidly funny first book starring the subversive sleuth in one of the most successful mystery series of all time. Fletch is an investigative reporter whose methods are a little unorthodox. Currently he's living on the beach. He's taking more than a little flak from his editor. She doesn't appreciate his style. Or the expense account items he's racking up. Or his definition of the word "deadline". Or the divorce lawyers who keep showing up at the office. So when multimillionaire Alan Stanwyk offers Fletch the job of a lifetime, which could be worth a fortune, he's intrigued.

Everyone loves Skylar Whitfield, Greendown Couty's winsome charmer. He has innate sexiness that makes women smile. But he doesn't make his cousin Jonathan smile. Jonathan's a Harvard preppy gracing the South for the first time and he has a hard time with Skylar's penchant for hot summer nights, long-legged women and southern masculinity. Skylar has an equal distaste for Jonathan's presumptions, snobbery and northern propriety.

For the past twenty years, Lee Child has been one of the bestselling authors in the world, thanks to the popularity of his iconic and instantly recognizable hero Jack Reacher. But even at the height of Reacher's fame, Child's short story writing was not confined to the series; throughout the course of his career, he published tales about a range of characters on both sides of the law, including assassins, a body guard, CIA and FBI agents, gangsters, and more.

Could have been another sequel to Knives Out.
In all honesty I really hate the fact that this is the penultimate book. Bummer.

Always Something Going on.
Who could guess all the action revolving around one little story? I was taken in by every step along the way. No one trusted anyone else. The police were just as leery as anyone else.

Murder at the Rod and Gun Club
As Flynn is in the midst of investigating a hit and run in Boston, he gets a call from the police commissioner summoning him out of town. Flynn arrives at an exclusive member’s only club for the wealthy to discover one of its members has "committed suicide". As Flynn quickly determines, the death is not suicide, and the death scene has been tampered with including moving the body away from the original crime scene. Before long, other members are killed off and the remaining group go through great pains to cover up every crime.
As more and more members expire, the mystery of who did it and why the cover up keeps Flynn busy. As always, the Flynn wit and unique style work to frustrate those around him including “Grover” who is tasked with investigating the hit and run in Flynn’s absence. Some of the best dialogue is between Flynn and Grover as their lack of any mutual respect is clearly obvious.
My only complaint with this particular outing was the number of participants involved. It was difficult keeping straight who was who as the plot moved forward and dead bodies mounted up. Donald Corren does his usual fine job with the narration especially catching the Irish brogue of our lead, Inspector Flynn. As a Plus Catalog entry, Flynn’s In is a winner. Enjoy

I thought this was a terrific story with enough humor and suspense to keep me parked in the driveway listening. Excellent narration too. I have really enjoyed the Flynn series so far.

Donald Corren brings Flynn to life.
Entertaining murder mystery with lots if twists and who dun it trickery, but Donald Corren’s portrayal of Flynn makes this entire series an enjoyable listen and one of my most favorite literary characters of all time. Reasons that any Grover should disagree should be obvious to those in the know.
