Editorial reviews

Listening to Peter Johnson's congenial performance of Fishless Days, Angling Nights is like spending time with an affable friend bursting with amusing anecdotes and often-profound insights not just on fly fishing, but also on women and life in general. The 2006 Alexander Scourby Narrator of the Year deploys a tall-tale drawl to complement Sparse Grey Hackle's masterful storytelling. Johnson treats Hackle's tales of mishaps and successes with whimsical charm, and listeners will especially find it difficult to resist laughing out loud at Hackle's blunder-filled attempts to repair a set of waders. Full of lighthearted, down-to-earth philosophy, this audiobook is an enjoyable listen for all.

SGH did a great job of explaining the history behind fly fishing and the Catskills traditions of outdoor activities. It reminded me that New York and really the entire northeast US was a very wild place and once you leave the population centers there are still excellent sporting opportunities. Although it was centered in that geographical area, his narrative had wonderful depth on subjects like fly tying. It was relaxing to listen to as well. It was not a grand adventure but to me spoke of a poignant moment of our history and some memories of the challenges we faced during WW2, like the difficulties of obtaining waders and fuel.

Good narrative, funny and interesting history
