About this listen
When Beth LaMonte rents a cottage on the coast of Maine, she wishes only to withdraw and paint. A mysterious ball of light disturbs her peace and leads her to a secret beach where she finds the diary of a girl who disappeared in 1975. Now Beth is on a mission, not only to bury her own past, but to put to rest the spirit of Firefly Beach.
"Firefly Beach will keep you guessing as to what will happen next, right to the ending. Meira Pentermann pens her characters with style and believability which leaves you totally satisfied." (Reviewed by My Cozy Corner)

Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

It's taken a long time and a little heartache, but Annie Sutton is finally following her dream of living on Martha's Vineyard. She fell in love with the island's singular beauty while using it as a setting for two of her novels. In her cozy rented cottage on Chappaquiddick, she's settling in for her first Vineyard winter - complete with a fierce nor'easter on the way, forecast to bring high winds and deep snow. But the blizzard also brings something unexpected to Annie's front porch: a basket, encircled by a ribbon, containing a baby girl. The note reads: "I named her Bella, after my grandmother. Please help her, because I can't."

Very enjoyable read.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was a very easy read that kept your attention, but didn't make you be so involved that you had to keep going back over places to keep up with the story. I would recommend this to anyone who isn't a deep thought reader. If you want an enjoyable way to do some of those mundane chores like folding laundry.

Beth finds herself being lead down the path of young girls life who disappeared from the house she is renting 20 years ago. As the story unfolds Beth starts to feel free from her old anchors and connects to parts of herself that make her whole and hopeful of her life ahead. A good cozy, mystery with interesting characters.

Summer Beach Read really different
This book is probably not for you if you like your books fast and erotic. I loved it. It is a long time mystery, with a little magic and the right characters to draw you in. I enjoyed the timing but it is not a flash. I am counting this as my summer beach read.

Intriguing plot
I purchased this audiobook and listened to it over a weekend. It's a compelling story of a girl who vanishes from a small town in Maine, a mystery with a touch of the supernatural. I enjoyed the locale and the warm characters.

not an unforgettable
What would have made Firefly Beach better?
A bit more action, a very drawn out story. I love 20+ hour books, glad this wasn't more than it was.
What could Meira Pentermann have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
More action. I don't know it was just blah, I did not have any emotional reaction to any of the characters.
Would you be willing to try another one of Donna Postel’s performances?
Her voice was good. She has a pleasant rhythm, stops, starts, pauses at all the right spots. Hopefully she gets better material to read.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Firefly Beach?
Probably the parts I wasn't listening to, out of boredom.
Any additional comments?
Not terrible but not a brag about story.
