About this listen

Firefly's early demise left fans with a deep sense of loss and plenty of unanswered questions. From what was wrong with the pilot to what was right with the Reavers, from the use of Chinese to how correspondence between Joss and network executives might have gone, from a philosopher's perspective on "Objects in Space" to a sex therapist's analysis of Inara, Finding Serenity is filled with writing as exciting, funny, and enthralling as the show itself.

Some of these essays were pretty good, I particularly liked the essay concerning subtext and colours within the Firefly Universe and the final essay written by Jewel Staite on her favourite memories of the show. Others were deeply philosophical and were only vaguely relevant.

Pseudo-intellectual pap

Anyone who remembers the 1970s and 80s science fiction community will be well familiar with the "scholarly" papers, magazines, etc about the message/spirit/subtext of Star Trek, based on 80 episodes of the TV show and the slowly growing numbers of movies. This book is a collection of Pseudo-intellectual pap based on 13 episodes of the TV show, Firefly, before the movie Serenity was released. It was also written before the name of the person most responsible for the cancellation was made known: Les Moonves, who failed upward to working with Amy Pascal at Sony.
In addition to the babbling and/or drivel of the various papers, they are read in a generally flat voice with little-to-no variety or distinguishing tones from lecture to lecture.
Of the dozen or so articles, only 2 or 3 are worthwhile, or even remotely interesting.
I recommend only for the truly dedicated Browncoat with a high tolerance for drivel.

Not Stories From the 'Verse

I bought this, and it's sequel, thinking it was more stories from the 'verse....
It's not...
It's a elongated rant, about supposed meanings, gripes at a "lack of chinese" characters, and Sexist "pro-Feminism" rants, with a couple spritzes of actual Firefly trivia.
I am surprised I was able to finish this first rant, and will be trying to get audible to swap both books out....
How such racist, sexist, essays could be included, is beyond me.
And the incessant comparisons to Buffy, and Angel, are insulting. And Why are you using the Firefly Universe, to comment on completely different shows???
So, if you want Firefly stories, it's not here.... If you want garbage spritzed with Firefly trivia, that's here....
