About this listen

As the author, Michael Burnett approached middle age, he wondered if the life he had was what he truly wanted.

Finding Myself Along the Way chronicles the steps he took next to gain perspective; rediscover who he was and whom he wanted to be.

Over the course of a few years, he sheds the trappings of his middle-class life. At age 50, he’d reduced his belongings to the bare essentials and veered onto a path less traveled. No longer striving for success as measured by society, he seeks to live a simpler existence and embarks on a journey into the unknown.

His story, told with unflinching honesty, is shared as he walks along the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage in Northern Spain.

He shares his struggles, fears, and mistakes he’s made and delves into how a loss at an early age can impact one's life. He also shares the lessons he’s learned, his hopes and dreams, and moments that will make your heart sing in this moving memoir.

The Camino comes to life in vivid detail…the natural beauty, the historic monuments…but most of all, as you meet the fellow pilgrims he encounters along the Way. You’ll discover why so many people return to the Camino time and time again.

This book will inspire you to begin your own journey, rediscover what ignites your passion, push you to move outside of your comfort zone, and provides plenty of opportunities for you to see what’s possible.

Follow Author Michael Burnett as he leaves the world as he knows it behind to embark on a journey of self-discovery. His journey proves it’s never too late to learn what you didn’t know or to reinvent yourself and live a more fulfilled life.

A little to personal

I loved the details of the hike just not the intimate details between two people, it is not why I purchased this book.

Take a walk on a beautiful, well written journey!

I’ve never been on a Camino before. It’s been something I’ve always dreamed of doing. This book takes you on the journey, introduces you to the sights along the path along with brief history, flavors of food, and people you will meet along the way. In the end you too will experience a Buen Camino.

Gross

I’ve read a lot of memoirs about the Camino but this one is by far the dullest, least insightful, most depthless memoir filled with boring conversations, read as if someone was reading text messages to someone else. I don’t know how anyone could rate this as anything but one star and I don’t say that lightly. The only moments that break the monotony are the authors graphic descriptions of sexual encounters with a love affair thirty years his junior. Hence, the title of this review. Gross. He was free to pursue this encounter because he left his wife of 28 years because she wouldn’t live the life of a hobo out of a van with him. It’s hard to relate to the author or find any redeeming qualities in him. It was a grind to get through this one.

Blasé Camino

A mediocre Camino story chronicling simple stories of a quest toward irresponsibility disguised as adventurism.

Too much sex

So much for a spiritual pilgrimage. This turned into the story of a recently divorced middle aged man trolling for sex on the Camino. Really disappointed
