About this listen

From Wall Street Journal best-selling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new, full-length standalone novel.

A smokin' hot British player. A jilted girl. One night of mistaken identity.

Two weeks before her wedding, Remi Montague's fiancé drops her faster than a drunken sorority girl in stilettos. Armed with her best friend and a bottle of tequila, she hops a plane to London to drown her sorrows before fall semester begins at Whitman University.

She didn't plan on attending a masquerade party. She sure didn't plan on waking up next to the British bad boy who broke her heart three years ago - the devastatingly handsome and naked Dax Blay. Furthermore, she has no clue how they acquired matching tattoos.

Once back at Whitman together, they endeavor to pretend they never had their night of unbridled passion in London. But that's damn hard to do when you live in the same house.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

A modern love story inspired by Romeo and Juliet. No one dies in the writing of this novel.

Fate, Passion and a Devastating Secrete……

…. Brings two hurt souls together.

This was an captivating second chance love story, filled with lots of drama, angst, heartbreak, passion, heat, and love. While I felt the story had a slow start, it definitely picked up, and had a few heart crushing moments, that had me hooked and hanging on each word waiting to see how these two would finally come together. A well written complex plot with lots of emotions and characters who had depth.

Some spoilers;
Dax is a lost soul, not sure what he wants out of life, college or relationships. He's got the body, looks, and lives the college frat boy life style, different parties and different girls. He avoids commitments but deep down he's afraid of getting hurt. Needing a break from the college life, Dax goes to spend his summer break with his cousin Spider in London.

Remi is strong, resilient, and suffered through a tragic heartache in her past. She once again finds herself nursing another broken heart after her fiancé suddenly calls off their wedding. In attempt to piece back her broken heart, she goes on her honeymoon to London…. single with her best friend Lulu. Whether it's fate or dumb luck, while Remi is at a party drinking and trying to have a good time, she accidently stumbles right into the lap of the first guy who truly broke her heart, Dax. Talk about dump luck! Three years ago, Remi and Dax spent an incredible weekend together, one neither of them could forget. As soon as it was over, Dax went right back to his frat boy party lifestyle. Because they attend the same college, it broke Remi's heart a little each time she saw him with a different girl.

While in London, Remi and Dax decide they will just be friends; however, their feelings, passion, and lust for each other quickly surface and they end up giving into the magnetic pull between. They spend an amazing steamy night together. Dax truly is the only man who has ever been able to make Remi burn with passion and need. The next morning, while Dax is out getting breakfast, Remi's ex-finance walks right back into her life without warning wanting a second chance. When Dax walks back to the hotel and sees them together, he takes off, doesn't say goodbye or even responds to her texts. Remi's left hurt, confused, and doesn't know what to do, but fate has a way of ensuring Dax and Remi's paths cross. Each encounter has them facing their inner feelings for each other, and when Dax learns Remi has been keeping a devastating secrete, his feelings become even more complex and confused.

This is the first story I've heard narrated by Kitty Bang and Paul Berton. They both did a great job, but Kitty's performance sounded a little more polished. Paul had a great accent, and I liked how he narrated the male characters but his female characters had me laughing. While I found the female voices funny at times, it really didn't take away for the story, and overall I enjoyed the audio.

This is the second book in the series, but could easily be listened too as a stand alone. Well worth the time and credit. (An awesome deal for those who have KU membership.)

An awesome read you'll want to relisten to!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Kitty Bang's performance: 5 stars | Paul Berton's performance: 4.5 stars
Yes without hesitation! It did take me a bit to get used to how Paul did the southern accent for all of the American female characters. But overall, both narrators did a great job enhancing the story, easily putting this one on my favorites list. I'm currently relistening to it now while I write this review.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dax was my favorite character. I have a thing for British guys, and I liked his personality and his honesty about his actions and even his academic performance. His connection to his mom was so sweet, and I loved how her letter inspired him.

Which character – as performed by Kitty Bang and Paul Berton – was your favorite?

Again that would be Dax. Both narrators seemed to get his character quirks and animated him well. I was Team Dax pretty much from the beginning but especially after he told us about their past 3-nighter in a flashback.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My jaw dropped open and I exclaimed out loud in amazement more than a few times during some of the confrontations scenes between various characters. And of course, Dax and Remi had plenty of steamy scenes as well that merited an immediate reread! ;)

Any additional comments?

A snippet from one of my favorite scenes:“You taste like every good thing I’ve ever wanted.”His taut restraint snapped, and he swayed into me. “God, I can’t tell you no.”“Then don’t.”

Filthy Good

There's really nothing filthy about this angst-filled, sweet love story. The main characters are typical college students but each have thier demons to overcome on thier way to thier HEA. Without being overdone, the author presents an authentic story for New Adult Romance lovers to indulge in.

Narration was good, though at times the accents sounded forced. Overall, the inflections and expression brought out the emotion and brought the story to life.

Who doesn’t love a British guy?

This was not my favorite from this author. It was a little to angsts for my liking. But the way she writes the sexual tension and chemistry between two characters is off the charts. And that British accent...come on. That is like my crack. Still worth the listen.

Decent follow up

I read Dirty English and was very excited when I saw Filthy English was included in the romance package. Overall, the story was pretty good, nice twists that kept the listener on their feet. And the character’s emotional turmoil never became over redundant as some romances tend to. However, my big reality break was the male narrator’s ‘female’ voice-woah, was it bad. I mean...WOW. I eventually got over it, but I did start to wonder if I could. Such a pity since his normal voice is pleasant. I found that I enjoyed the first book in the series more, but I like that Madden-Mills takes the time to make her female leads smart. That will likely keep me coming back. Also she is pretty great at writing sex. I’d read again.

Very good addition to the series :)

4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked both Remi and Dax and enjoyed seeing them get together. Fair warning, this is kind of a love-triangle story because there is an attempted reunion between Remi and her ex (no sex though) while her and Dax are still unsure where things stand between them.

Remi is a college student that loves birds and is studying ornithology. Remi lost her father when she was a teen and misses him badly. She has a mother and autistic brother that she loves, even if she doesn't always get along the best with her mother. Remi was engaged to a guy named Hartford but he broke up with her because he needed a "break" so Remi and her BFF decided to use the nonrefundable honeymoon as a vacation.

Dax is a college student that has no idea what he plans to do with his life when he gets out of college. Dax and his twin (Declan from book #1) were born to an English mother and an American father that got divorced soon after they were born and they grew up in England with their mother until she died of cancer. They then went to live with their father but Dax has always had a bit of a contentious relationship with him.

So, Remi and Dax had a brief fling during Remi's freshmen year. They met and liked each other so much they spent a long weekend shut away together in his room. Unfortunately, a skank that Dax slept with in the past decided to cause some issues that chased Remi away and Dax was so convinced he wouldn't be a good person to be involved with anyone, he just let her go. Remi was crushed by what happened but she did recover and started going our with Hartford a while later. Hartford seemed like a good, reliable guy which was just what Remi felt she needed at that point. They dated a couple years before they got engaged but Hartford had second thoughts 2 weeks before the wedding. While in England on what was supposed to be her honeymoon, Remi decides to party it up. When she and her BFF end up at a bar where everyone wears masks to hide their identity, Remi decides to pick up a one-night-stand as a way of getting past what Hartford did to her.

Remi and Dax somehow meet in the bar, masks on and everything. Things begin rough because of their past but when Dax ends up being the hero that saves Remi from a bad situation, things between them smooth out a bit. Remi and Dax become friends and seem to even be progressing further during her trip to England and I liked where things were going. Unfortunately, Hartford decides to show up to beg Remi to take him back and Remi is confused enough about everything to consider it. Everyone ends up back in America as classes start and Remi desperately needs a place to stay so she starts renting a room from Dax. This spikes up the tension between Remi and Dax and it takes some time but they do finally work through their issues...and Remi works through her confusion about Hartford vs. Dax. In the end, Dax and Remi are doing well and heading towards a HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Remi pretty well as a heroine. I sort of wished she'd have kicked Hartford to the curb immediately when he came back but considering everything, I can kind of see why she was willing to talk to him. I liked Dax very much except for his insistence about him not being worthy of a good woman/relationship. Outside of his fear of commitment, I thought Dax was a really good guy. I'm not much on love-triangles but I still liked the characters and thought the story was very good so I'd recommend it. :)
