Acerca de esta escucha

At 10, painting a perfect Mona Lisa made Annie Kincaid a prodigy. A similar copy at 17 made her a crook. Lesson learned: genuine art is priceless, and forgery gets you arrested. Now Annie puts her artistic talents to honest use as a faux finisher in San Francisco. But her past may not be painted over as well as she thought....

Annie's got bad news for her ex-boyfriend, curator Ernst Pettigrew: the snooty Brock Museum's new 15-million-dollar Caravaggio painting is as fake as a three-dollar bill. And the same night Annie makes her shattering appraisal, the janitor on duty is killed - and Ernst disappears. To top it all off, a well-known art dealer has absconded with multiple Old Master drawings, leaving yet more forgeries in their places. Finding the originals - and pocketing the reward money - will get Annie's new landlord off her back. But it could also draw her into the underworld of fakes and forgers she swore she'd left behind, starting with a close encounter with a changeable but charming art thief....

There was a lot going on in this book. The main character is a bit of a dingbat and makes unwise decisions. The narrator's voice is low and sleepy in some places and it was easy to lose interest. I'm not sure if I'll listen to the next one.

A little hard to follow

The characters are entertaining, but not well-developed -- not even the protagonist. I was looking for company in the car during a period when I was doing a lot more driving than usual, and this provided that. It made me laugh at times and I even wondered briefly how it would all come out. I am listening to thrillers and mysteries right now and may be ready for a break -- in which case I may try another by this team.

Light and Entertaining

Everything about this I loved...the narration spot on, the story line great..well done!

About 85% of artwork out there in museums etc., is forged..

Loved this book. Strong plot, well written, and thoroughly entertaining. Juliet Blackwell takes the reader on a wild ride through the intrigues of art forgery and appreciation. Well-fleshed characters help make this book a joy to read and Xe Sands brings these characters to life.

Looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Absolutely wonderful journey

Interesting characters, description of people & places in the Bay Area makes me nostalgic. Our heroine doesn’t take herself too seriously.

Fun story- laugh out loud.

Fun and exciting.I actually heard myself laughing out loud often.
As usual, Juliet Blackwell, aka, Hailey Lind, does not disappoint. The narration was amazing. Thank you to XE Sands. Can't wait to get into the next book of the series.

Just found this series and I’m hooked! Well written, funny, and fast paced…I just wish the series didn’t end with book 4.

Loved it!

Audibles recommend this audiobook to me. I wasn’t sure but gave it a listen. Why does the Audible AI know me so well?! I absolutely loved it and immediately downloaded the next 2 books n the series. This book was well written with well developed plot and characters. I wasn’t sure if I would like the main character’s snippy reactions and rashness but ended up really liking her. Loved all the side characters but more importantly loved all the details about old paintings, the art world, Art forgery. Very interesting and entertaining!

While the plot was fair, the narration provided little variance between characters. It was like the narrator was simply reading the book outloud.

Monotone narration

It's obvious that there are plenty of listeners who don't mind, and even really enjoy this narrator's style but I am not one of them. I still took a chance on this book because of the positive reviews and the topic is so unique in the world of cozy mysteries. People who have never heard Xe Sands should definitely listen to the sample before purchasing though. The story was interesting and fun. I liked Annie's intelligence and competence. Something that shocked me, however, was how Annie describes the one African-American character (this is one of those books that spells out for you when someone is not white) as the "African Princess" not just once but repeatedly. Why??!

beware of narration, uncomfortable stereotypes
