About this listen

Fed Up! tells the story of a global macro trader working amidst the greatest market panic we have seen since the Great Depression. As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world, listeners are taken through the late-stage decadence of an exuberant market bubble to the depths of the market crash and into the early innings of a recovery. It provides listeners with a front row seat on trading activity, allowing them to experience the heartbeat of the markets.

Raw , emotional, uncut …relatable

Inspired me to find my process. Often in this business you question yourself. The ups and downs are relentless and the only shelter from the storm is the process. Thank you

Politics. Politics. Politics.

Good story and well written; however, this book could have easily be written without Lancaster feeling obligated to share his political views. Political opinions were completely unnecessary. Do these authors not realize that half the people reading their books voted for the other guy?

Better than you might guess but not great

I get handed books written by people i meet and this is better than 90% of those but it's not a really good book. Read a Soros book instead

Very insightful

It was very interesting to gain insight into how the HF managers were thinking during CoVid, must read if you are in the finance world.

Very listenable, a fair recap of the times

The author's calculations about markets are enjoyable and enlightening if not stunning. It is interesting to see a hedge fund top dog as not such a blinding otherworldly odd genius, just a smart and savvy guy from Detroit with a good expressive style, and the guts to have made some good moves. I already knew all the history and background he recites, but this is a good update of the big 2020 dip and rebound. The technical details of what the Fed did are more systematically, if dryly, told in the recently released book, Trillion Dollar Triage (also cutting in day to day markets stats with experiences of various players). But this is a lot more brisk and spiced up. Some of the voice characterizations here were pretty good (I liked "the Rabbi" best, and loved his thought processes). This book was useful as a sort of breezy first draft of history from a markets view. I had a relatively painless pandemic experience early on, and was somewhat withdrawn from media and markets fixation, just creating a more solitary new style of life. So I appreciate this listener-friendly walk-through. This author seemed a throwback, drinking heavily into his 50s, still into the same rock and roll, let's-hit-the-clubs cultural claptrap. I find that quickly tedious, if not contemptible. He praises the disciplined new focused people but still drinks off hangovers, himself. The hand-wringing about inequality was at first meaningful but got repetitive at the end. Yeah, I hear you.

Excellent Book

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story and has any interest in a better understanding of the US economy. It reads like a novel but is full of extremely well written, understandable information about how the Fed works and why are economy is in its current state. It has plenty of fun and suspense, plus a personal touch about the author’s life outside of his business. I really enjoyed it and both my teenage sons are lining up to read it!
