Acerca de esta escucha

This astonishing volume of private correspondence, a critically acclaimed follow-up to The Proud Highway, shows Hunter S. Thompson as brazen, incisive, and outrageous as ever. When that first book of letters appeared in 1997, Time pronounced it "deliriously entertaining", Rolling Stone called it "brilliant beyond description", and the New York Times celebrated its "wicked humor and bracing political conviction".

Spanning the years between 1968 and 1976, these never-before-published letters show Thompson building his legend: running for sheriff in Aspen, Colorado; creating the seminal road book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; twisting political reporting to new heights for Rolling Stone; and making sense of it all in the landmark Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72. To read Thompson's dispatches from these years - addressed to the author's friends, enemies, editors, and creditors, and such notables as Jimmy Carter, Tom Wolfe, and Kurt Vonnegut - is to read a raw, revolutionary eyewitness account of one of the most exciting and pivotal eras in American history.

I tried this book simply based on the narrator, Malcolm Hillgartner. I had been listening to another book he narrated, and decided to try this. I have never read anything by Hunter S Thompson. I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Wow! The letters are fantastic. A combination of wit and love for his family. An easy listen that I could enjoy listening to again and again.

In addition to listening to more narrations from Hillgartner, I will check out more books by Thompson.

Fantastic listening

Great collection of Hunter S Thompson stories. Hunter fans must read. Good narration. If you like like HST look up the book by his son.

Lots of insight into Hunter S. Thompson through correspondance letters with friends, colleagues and business contacts. Drags a bit sometimes but well edited and brutally honest. A must for HST devotees. Loads of content for the price.

A compilation of correspondance and loathing.

M. Hilgartner more than makes this work--remember this is HST's letters, a real mixed bag. Great fun.

More than "OK, for now"!

I wish Malcolm Hillgartner could re-record some of Hunters earlier books, perhaps as extended editions. No offense to Scott Sowers, but I can't get into his somewhat louder, high pitched readings if Hunters work. There is just such a vast difference in tone, it makes impossible for to get into the content.

A fantastic continuation of 'The Proud Highway'.

HST does some of his best writing in letters. the letters covered in this book in particular are great because they cover the years he wrote Fear and Loathing and those first Gonzo articles for Scanlin's.

I love the performance as well. this is my second listen and the narrator is top notch.

A must for HST fans. Great audiobook reading.
